„How should businesses talk about climate change?” is a wonderful article by Rev. Dr. Susan Goldsworthy OLY which discusses how new and empowering narratives can be more effective drivers of #sustainability.  🌱 This includes a shift toward language that cultivates a sense of purpose, and in broader context can create space for a shift towards constructive action that not only sustains but regenerates the world we share. “Rather than focusing on ‘fixing’ the old system, businesses can embrace the natural cycles of life – growth, adaptation, and renewal – as models for sustainable success.” This can alter how businesses approach their work. 🪴 Using the Inner Development Goals as a powerful framework, corporate leaders can play a unique role in guiding this transformation. “They can inspire their teams by acknowledging the significant challenges and then focusing on the positive actions that can be taken today, emphasizing agency and accountability.“ As Susan beautifully puts it: “The challenge – and the opportunity – of our time is to move beyond survival and into a mindshift that fosters life in all its forms.“ #Regeneration #InnerDevelopmentGoals #IDGs #Leadership

I started the first Christmas calendar colleague posts with saying "it's all about the people!" I took Event Organizers on a time-travel recently. For some, the workshop was a bit out there - others commented that it was a deeply moving and entirely unexpected experience. The exercise from The Work That Reconnects by Joana Macy can indeed serve to open us up to a bigger perspective and a deeper purpose. However, inner change and leadership can also come from small, more practical actions we can take in our daily lives. 💡Why applying an “atomic habits mindset” to tackling existential system change doesn’t work. So much of our ways of thinking about change, actually come out of behavioral science. Behavioral science has evolved in a specific context. If we look at the genealogy, ie Skinner, we find a rather mechanistic mindset of stimulus & response. Choice architecture, defaults, nudging, goal setting, accountability, micro coaching techniques are all awesome. This approach is entirely mismatched to tackle the kind of systems thinking that is required at this time. Therefore, if someone asks me for the “how-to / checklist,” I revert back to the fact that what we’re being asked to do, is to evolve as human beings. Use tools like atomic habits for discrete behavior changes: like how to take your vitamins, eat better and get exercise. For actual systemic transformation that our planet is asking us to do right now: look at how to *develop yourself and your people* (teams, funders, grantees, boards, employees, classmates, etc) with human relational skills. Empathy, listening, EQ, nervous system regulation, trauma healing, relational intelligence, ancestral work, nature connection, somatic work, presence, mindfulness, inner locus of control, and self efficacy. The only way forward is fostering islands of sanity and islands of coherence.
