We interviewed Johan Breukelaar, Director General at EFCC - European Federation for Construction Chemicals. EFCC represents the construction value chain in IRISS and we wanted to know what role SSbD plays within the value chain and what opportunities and challenges lie ahead. - There is a lot of innovation going on in our value chain, which typically comes from larger companies. The SSbD24 conference takes place this week in Monte Verità, Switzerland. The conference brings together experts from various relevant fields and sectors who have started to work on specific methods, tools and criteria to enable the actual use of SSbD. Experts from industry and value chains presented the SSbD framework and its application in case studies, and regulators talked about their views on operationalising the concept and related policy needs. A special session was organized by and for Early Stage Researchers to help networking and get familiar with opportunities on SSbD-related topics. #SSbD24 #SSbD #IRISS_SSbD

Last week, the II ‘Total-Nanosafe’ International Conference was held in Braga, Portugal. The conference brought together experts in different fields related to nanomaterials and nanotechnology and how these relate to different aspects of safety regarding health and the environment. Last week, researchers from IRISS were at the 2nd European Process Industry Conference hosted by A.SPIRE, Processes4Planet Research Association in Brussels, where they held the workshop Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design Production Processes for Chemicals and Materials. The workshop included presentations on the roadmap and practical implementation of SSbD, as well as a discussion with conference attendees on the Integration of the SSbD approach into the processes & process industry. #SSbD #IRISS_SSbD

The 9th Green & Sustainable Chemistry Conference takes place on the 4th-6th of March 2025 in Pune, India. The conference will explore inter- and transdisciplinary aspects of green and sustainable chemistry and bring up topics such as Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design, climate mitigation and sustainable chemistry and agriculture.
