  • 🌍 Today, we honor the memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust. 🕯️ On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we stand united against hate, discrimination, and injustice. The atrocities of the past remind us of the urgent need to foster peace, respect, and solidarity in our world today. Never again - is now. Movendi International reaffirms our commitment to building healthy, inclusive communities free from violence and oppression. Together, we can work toward a future where dignity, equality, democracy, and human rights thrive. We will never forget. And with that memory, we take action for a better world for all. ✊🕊️ #HolocaustRemembranceDay #WeRemember #NeverAgain #HumanRights #Solidarity #democracy #developmentforall #solidarityforall #peace #neveragain #neveragainisnow #shoah #humanity #dignity #justice

  • Study: Behavior Comes Before Attitude in Alcohol Prevention https://lnkd.in/dPW7-hX7 The study findings have significant implications for prevention theory, and also the design and evaluation of alcohol prevention interventions. They challenge the commonly held belief that attitudes towards alcohol drive alcohol use behaviours. On the contrary, the results of this study suggest that attitudes are much more of a product of behaviour than vice versa. #AlcoholPrevention #AlcoholIssues #HealthForAll

  • Study Reveals How ZAPs Could Act As Big Alcohol’s Trojan Horse https://lnkd.in/dJHB8eqn This exploratory study aimed to examine adolescents’ perceptions and use of ZAPs and their support for a range of potential regulatory actions. The context of the study is Australia, where the current regulatory environment allows minors to purchase ZAPs and for these products to be sold and marketed in places where alcohol cannot. The legal age for purchasing alcohol in Australia is 18 years and over. In this way, the study addresses the recognised evidence gap around young people’s experiences with ZAPs that is impeding relevant policy development and implementation. #BigAlcoholExposed #AlcoholHarms #UnderAge #AlcoholIssues #CDoH #AlcoholPrevention via Leon Booth Danica Keric Jacquie Bowden Ashlea Bartram Agnivo Sengupta

I never expected one week to leave such a lasting impact on me In December 2022, I got to be part of Movendi International Project Empowerful 3.0 in Slovenia, where I represented Centar za edukaciju mladih - CEM and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project was all about the impact of alcohol and tobacco use among youth in Europe, and it gave us a lot of useful info on this issue. During the week, I learned about how alcohol affects health, picked up advocacy tips for working at the EU level, and talked about prevention strategies that really work. We also shared ideas on how to make a difference in our own communities. Experts led the sessions, which made everything super interesting and informative. One of the best parts was the intercultural exchange. There were participants from seven different European countries, and we didn’t just talk about health issues—we also shared our cultures and unique perspectives. Being part of this intercultural exchange was really impactful, it made me eager to join more projects that connect people from different backgrounds to share ideas, and it also made me even more passionate about helping out in my community and working with youth.

  • Magic happens in meetings ✨ Today we had the chance to spend the whole day with the leaders of @juvente in Norway 🇳🇴 - bright, value-driven young leaders from different parts of the country. 💡 We talked about values and the realities of young people in Norway. 😍 We mapped what Juvente offers and contributed to making the lives of young people better: with, by, and for young people. 🤬 We also discussed the harmful effects of the pervasive alcohol norm on youth in Norway: exclusion, loneliness, and more. 🙌🏽And we explored tools and knowledge to change that, reach more, become a platform for more diverse engagement. What a day ✨ Among discussing these topics, we created magic - insights and new perspectives, inspiration and new ideas for our work. So @kristin_sperkova and @maikduennbier feel more inspired, more empowered, more enriched, and more committed to the work with our members for creating healthier and more inclusive environments for many more people. #HeartDriven #SocialMovement #DevelopmentForAll #HealthForAll #mentalhealth #youthempowerment #youthleadership #youthdevelopment #youthpower #alcoholfree #sober #sobermovement #solidaritymovement #democracymovement

  • 🚨 New Report Exposes How Big Alcohol Deploys Deliberate Strategies to Target Vulnerable People, to Derail Lifesaving Public Policies, and to Mislead the Public 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dmHUq_Cv 💡💡Read all about the brand new report in our media release and see key quotes from the launch event. Movendi International with the support of the RESET Alcohol Initiative has today released a groundbreaking new report: The Big Alcohol Exposed Annual Report 2024 “From Sports to Screens – Exposing Big Alcohol’s Predatory Practices”. The report sheds light on how the alcohol industry operated in 2024 in the pursuit of its profit maximization agenda no matter the human and societal costs. It exposes key themes of Big Alcohol interference in societies around the world, a host of dubious strategies putting people and communities in harm’s way, and new data substantiating the alcohol industry’s conflict of interest. The report summarizes the most appalling cases of misconduct and predatory practices. Through deliberate, systematic strategies, the Big Alcohol embeds itself in spaces we trust – sports, digital platforms, and wellness culture – while actively undermining evidence-based policies that protect people’s health. 🙌🏽 Movendi International Takes Action With the evidence of Big Alcohol’s predatory practices and unethical tactics, Movendi International is taking action. ”Together with our 170+ member organizations are we now sending this evidence to our governments. Movendi International will today send this report to the World Health Organization and other United Nations agencies,” explain Kristína Šperková and Pubudu Sumanasekara, the leaders of Movendi International. ”The evidence in our new report is so clear that we are asking the World Health Organization – again – to stop their annual dialogue meetings with Big Alcohol. ”We also submit this report as clear prove that the alcohol industry undermines and counter-acts the implementation of the Global Alcohol Action Plan and the Agenda 2030 that seek to reduce per capita alcohol consumption to promote health and development. ”We are asking UN agencies to stop their perilous partnerships with Big Alcohol and heed the evidence that these partnerships are causing harm and blocking progress across the Sustainable Development Goals. ”It is also clear that countries need more support to protect their people – especially children and youth – from the harms caused by alcohol companies and to advance evidence-based alcohol policy solutions safeguarded from alcohol industry interference. ”The need for developing a global binding treaty for alcohol policy is getting ever clearer.” - Kristína Šperková, International President, and Pubudu Sumanasekara, International Vice President, Movendi International #BigAlcoholExposed #AlcoholHarms #AlcPolPrio #CDoH #CorporateAccountability #ConflictOfInterest #CorporateGreed #PeopleBeforeProfit

  • What is the worst thing Big Alcohol has done in 2024, in your opinion? Tomorrow 💥 We’re launching the Big Alcohol Exposed report for 2024 - tomorrow. And we hope you’ll all join us for the event, report launch, and discussion. With this report, we reveal the predatory practices Big Alcohol deployed around the world in the past year: 🚨 One appalling case study comes from Australia 🇦🇺 where our colleagues at Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) revealed that alcohol and gambling companies exploit social media data to target people with advertising for harmful products when they are most vulnerable 🤮 👉🏽 Facebook collects data of users. For example when people search for information about and help with alcohol use disorder and addiction, this data is made available by Facebook to alcohol companies that use it deliberately to target at risk people with alcohol ads when they are most vulnerable. 💯 The new report “From Sports to Screens: Exposing Big Alcohol’s Predatory Practices in 2024” contains many more such examples, case studies, and analysis of major themes, and latest data exposing the Big Alcohol conflict of interest. 💡📢 With our new report, we want to bring these dark practices into the light and discuss them widely, calling for change. #BigAlcoholExposed #AlcoholHarms #AlcoholIssues #CDoH #CorporateGreed #CorporateExploitation #conflictofinterest #corporateaccountability
