The Nordic Payments Council (NPC) manage Nordic payment schemes in the future to facilitate payments within the Nordic countries. The main objective for the NPC is to contribute to harmonised payments in the Nordics. The NPC is a non-profit member association combining the Nordic bankers’ associations, banks and payment institutions covered by the PSD2 directive. The membership requirements are objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate.

Today the Nordic Payments Council has published updated scheme rulebooks of the NPC Credit Transfer, Instant Credit Transfer and Confirmation of Payee, in line with the NPC change management process. The NPC Credit Transfer and Instant Credit Transfer Scheme Rulebooks will enter into effect on October 5, 2025, while the Confirmation of Payee Scheme Rulebook will take immediate effect as of today, November 25, 2024. We are pleased to announce that the NPC has approved its first scheme participants. This approval represents a significant advancement in the modernisation of payment infrastructure in the Nordic region. The inclusion of Danske Bank and ICA Banken as NPC scheme participants is a crucial step towards creating a more cohesive and efficient payments infrastructure. We extend our congratulations to the initial participants who have successfully met the NPC’s stringent criteria. For banks and payment institutions interested in becoming NPC Instant Credit Transfer Scheme participants, please take note of the application deadlines in 2024: August 25 for the Swedish Krona (via RIX-INST) and November 1 for the Danish Krone (via TIPS DKK). Timely submission of applications is essential for consideration in these schemes.
