Folkhälsomyndigheten uppmärksammar European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)s rekommendation att stärka övervakningen av vårdrelaterade infektioner och vårdhygieniska rutiner. Regeringen arbetar med en ny strategi mot antibiotikaresistens då den gamla löper ut under 2025. NY ECDC-RAPPORT VISAR PÅ BRISTER I DATAINSAMLING AV VRI INOM SVENSK SJUKVÅRD 🇸🇪 I september 2024 besökte European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) och European Commission Sverige för att granska vår nationella strategi mot antimikrobiell resistens (AMR). Sverige har bland de lägsta nivåerna av AMR i Europa men rapporten visar också på tydliga brister: datainsamlingen är inkonsekvent, smittskyddsprogram saknas och insatser med dokumenterad effekt prioriteras inte. Dessutom visar rapporten att problemen är störst inom långtidsboenden där arbetet med smittskydd är mer ostrukturerat. Några av huvudpunkterna är: 1️⃣ Data om vårdrelaterade infektioner samlas inte in på ett standardiserat sätt. Det försvårar ett strukturerat arbetssätt, jämförelser och uppföljning. 2️⃣ Det saknas nationell samordning och obligatoriska program för infektionsprevention och kontroll. 3️⃣ Otillräckligt fokus på effektiva insatser - bevisade åtgärder prioriteras inte. 4️⃣ Resursbrist försvårar en effektiv övervakning - manuell övervakning är dyrt och tidskrävande. 5️⃣ En stor andel av infektionerna härstammar från långtidsboenden, där smittskydd är mer ostrukturerat. 👉 Läs hela rapporten här: https://lnkd.in/d9RGY22K På P3S har vi byggt en mjukvara som möjliggör en standardiserad och automatiserad övervakning. Very happy that there's been a decrease in the sale of antibiotics as antimicrobial resistance plays a huge role in Healthcare-Associated Infections. Especially important in Sweden as we have the fourth highest incidence of Healthcare-Associated Infections in Europe. #AMR

NEW PUBLICATION ON PERFORMANCE OF ALGORITHM FOR SURGICAL ADVERSE EVENTS ✨ New publication with co-founders Suzanne D. van der Werff and Pontus Naucler on performance of grading surgical adverse events according to the Clavien-Dindo classification. 📄 The algorithm was tested on Electronic Health Record data from Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset and compared to manual classification by nurse and surgeon, and the results showed a strong agreement with surgeon annotations (kappa 0.89) and moderate with nurse (kappa 0.76). 👉 View the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dCWcXH2N #Healthcare

Region Gävleborg sets ambitious goal to reduce HAIs by 50%! According to Gefle Dagblad, regional politicians are taking a stronger stance against Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) during 2025, demanding a clear and actionable plan to reduce HAIs significantly. Notably a robust system for follow-up 👀 An ambitious target and this is exactly where systems for automatic collection of data on healthcare-associated infections can make a difference. By providing a clear overview of infection rates, enabling targeted interventions, and make data-driven decisions that save lives.

👏 New publication with P3S co-founder Pontus Naucler uses Machine Learning models to improve prediction of severe outcomes in patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa bloodstream infection! 🦠 Pseudomonas aeruginosa bloodstream infections (PA BSI) are serious hospital-acquired infections that are difficult to treat due to antibiotic resistance, often leading to high death rates. Although new treatments targeting bacterial traits are being tested, there is limited real-world data on how these traits impact patient outcomes. 🔎 The authors studied 773 patients from Europe and Australia over seven years, analyzing both patient information and the genetic makeup of the bacteria. They found that certain bacterial traits, like the ability to form protective biofilms and specific genetic types, were linked to higher mortality. Another bacterial system, the type III secretion system, was tied to cases of septic shock. 📈 Using this genetic information alongside patient data in machine learning models improved predictions of which patients were likely to experience severe outcomes. The findings suggest that virulence markers provide prognostic information with potential applications in guiding adjuvant sepsis treatments. 👏 Happy to see that our scientific advisor Anders Ternhag has a part in introducing new reimbursement models for antibiotics! - The idea is that we offer companies a guaranteed compensation, so they receive a certain amount of millions regardless of sales," says Anders Ternhag to Läkartidningen. 🦠 This has the added benefit of contributing to reducing antibiotic resistance. By providing companies with guaranteed compensation regardless of sales volume, they are not incentivized to market and sell more, which is expected to slow down the development of resistance. 👉 Healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance are closely linked. Previous studies have shown that approximately 70 % of resistant infections are healthcare-associated according to Folkhälsomyndigheten. Preventing these infections can help reduce the spread of resistance while also improving patient safety. https://lnkd.in/gHNWYYEt

✨ Region Skåne releases new strategy on reducing HAI’s, naming ”Registration and Surveillance” of HAI’s as one of eight key strategies.
