Reach for Change

Unleashing the power of local social entrepreneurs for children and youth
Om oss
Reach for Change believes that one person can change the world. One person with true passion, an entrepreneurial spirit and an innovative idea. But we also know that this person needs support - someone who believes in the idea and are willing to take an early risk. This is where we come into the picture. We enroll exceptional local social entrepreneurs into our support programs, people who truly have a passion and an innovative idea for creating a better world for children and youth. And we help them to go from an idea to a sustainable solution. We have now done this for over 10 years, and during this time supported over 1200 social entrepreneurs, in 18 countries across Europe and Africa, who in turn have reached 4.3 million children and youth.

🎉 We’re Celebrating 10 Years of Reach for Change Latvia! This International Social Enterprise Day, we invited all three of our former country managers - Olga Harding (ex-Dmitrijeva), Jevgenija Kondurova and Kristīne Vērpeja - to share their thoughts on the organisation's achievements and vision for the future. 🌍✨ 💬 Olga says Reach for Change's support has helped social enterprises not only get off the ground successfully, but also establish themselves in the long term, making them strong role models for other new entrepreneurs. "The existence of such examples is important because it shows that social entrepreneurship can be both impactful and sustainable." 💬 Jevgenija also believes that Reach for Change's work has made a significant contribution to promoting social entrepreneurship in Latvia, showing that business can add value and inspiring more and more entrepreneurs to choose this path. 💬 Kristīne, our current Country Manager, emphasises that Reach for Change was one of the first organisations to support social entrepreneurship in Latvia and that starting work in a new sector means growing and developing with it. "Being a pioneer is not easy - you have to do a lot of educational work and reach out to those who need support, while working on your own development." 🔮 Looking ahead, Olga envisions building a strong innovation ecosystem. Jevgenija wishes us many more successful years, while Kristīne urges us to stay adaptable and continue as a thought leader in the field. To all the social entrepreneurs we’ve worked with—you inspire us! Here’s to the next 10 years of making a difference together. 💪 Happy #SocialEnterpriseDay 🎉🥂

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all joining yesterday when we as a part of our Nordic initiative Next in Mind arranged a side event during #SLUSH24. We discussed the potential of investing in social entrepreneurs within mental health. It felt fantastic to gather investors, social entrepreneurs, NGO’s and supporters where every conversation is needed and a step closer to create radical change and real impact in our most pressing societal challenges. A special thank you our partner Illusian Founder Office for letting us host the breakfast there and Liban Ismail for sharing why you invest in social entrepreneurs, our social entrepreneur Markus Raivio for your inspirational Change Talk and our insightful panelists Thea Messel founder of Unconventional Ventures, Johanna Kronstedt, Team Leader Sekasin Kollektiivi, Anna Juusela, founder of We Encourage and Laura Meyer vice-chair of our knowledge partner Eva Ahlström Foundation. A few takeaways: 🚀 We need to think disruptive Nothing will change if we do the same thing over and over again, we need to go out of our comfort zones and try new things, and dare to make mistakes. 💖 We need to put as much focus on social innovations as green innovations The potential in social innovations is huge and it needs as much investment and spotlight as green innovations. 💰 We need different kind of capital In order to make a real impact different capital needs to come in on different stages. We need to acknowledge the different roles between public and private capital in order to support social entrepreneurs in the most effective way. ↗ We need different scaling strategies There are many ways to scale social innovations and we need to also think beyond traditional scaling models, and always put impact first. Collaborations between social entrepreneurs, and scaling through bigger organizations are just a few things to explore further. #NextinMind #mentalhealth #socialentrepreneurship #emergingadults The Inner Foundation Tim Bergling Foundation

Many social entrepreneurs understand the importance of measuring their impact. However, high costs often create significant barriers to developing sustainable and replicable structures or hiring experts for this task. As a result, other priorities, such as addressing the needs of their beneficiaries and securing funding, often take precedence in their social enterprises, making it challenging to maintain effective impact measurement. In this month's Letter of Change, we are featuring Shifteh Malithano, our Director of Programs and Impact, who shares valuable tips and insights on how social entrepreneurs can leverage our approach to measuring their impact. In addition, you will find some exciting announcements and calls to action. Share your thoughts with us after the read, and don’t forget to subscribe to the Letter of Change for updates from Reach for Change! 🛎 #LetterofChange #ImpactMeasurement #SocialEntrepreneurship

📦 Using cardboard boxes to encourage children to think creatively. 🌍 In today's challenging world, many children face struggles that significantly shape their lives. Recognizing this, Judith Jønsby founded Papmor (also known as Boxmom) in 2015 to provide children with tools to reimagine their futures. "I felt that someone had to do something," she states. 👧 Based in Denmark, Papmor offers themed workshops to help vulnerable children dealing with trauma take ownership of their stories. One workshop theme is “Monster Feelings,” which creates a safe space for children to express their emotions and articulate their feelings through creative activities. 🎨 Initially focused on refugee children from the Middle East, Judith has expanded her support to Ukrainian refugees. The visual nature of the workshops helps bridge language barriers. Evidence shows that her work has a genuine impact, leading Judith to remain committed to expanding her influence internationally. ✨ Judith’s mission is clear: “If I can help just one child feel good about themselves and replace some of their negative stories with positive narratives about who they are, it makes it all worthwhile. I feel so blessed to have more than one story today.” 💪 The journey has been challenging, but Judith tries to "take her own medicine" and view obstacles as learning opportunities. It helps to have a network of people on a similar journey who understand what you are going through without needing explanations. 🎞️ Watch the full video for Judith's advice to those just starting out. – 🌐 Papmor is a member of the Baltic Sea Impact Network, a peer-learning network supported by the Svenska institutet. This network gathers social entrepreneurs from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, and Ukraine.
