  • Our Skiing Trip of the year 2025! As we kick off 2025 with an ambitious vision for transformation, we’re excited to spotlight a defining moment from our year’s launch: an inspiring alpine retreat that united bright young innovators and rising leaders from every corner of the country. This dynamic skiing expedition wasn’t just about the slopes—it sparked creativity, forged connections, and set the tone for a year of groundbreaking collaboration across the country (Sweden 🇸🇪)! ❄️ You might ask: “Why a skiing trip for an education-focused organization?” For us, learning extends far beyond traditional learning settings. We believe in empowering our members by: 🧠 Building resilience through new skills (like mastering a snowy slope!). 🏃 Prioritizing physical health in breathtaking natural destination. 🌲 Connecting deeply with nature to inspire stewardship of our planet. 🌟 Breaking barriers & building bridges in community Many young people in urban areas and minority communities across the Nordics grow up with limited access to winter activities—a gap we’re determined to close. This year, we created space for first-time skiers to conquer fears, forge friendships, and discover the joy of the outdoors. From frosty forests to sunlit peaks, we explored stunning locations nationwide, proving that the mountains belong to everyone. 🌍 Why does this matter? Through this initiative, we’re amplifying inclusion in outdoor education and rewriting narratives about who “belongs” in nature. We hope that this impact will help the amazing work of Friluftsfrämjandet (Swedish Outdoor Association), and we're hoping to collaborate in the future. ⛷️ Our goal? To spark a ripple effect—inspiring other organizations to prioritize accessibility and ensure no one misses out on the transformative power of the outdoors. This is just the beginning. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or have never touched snow, we invite YOU to be part of next year’s adventure. Let’s redefine leadership, one slope at a time. 🌟 Stay tuned for updates—and together, let’s make the outdoors a place for all. 🌳 💚 #OutdoorEducation #FutureLeaders #InclusionMatters #CommunityBuilding #Sustainability #NordicNature

  • Better late than never. ☺️ We'd love to share the progress of our collaboration with the Nordic Somali Academics Network (NSAN), a Nordic Diaspora initiative that began this summer. So far, we've successfully hosted the NSAN kick-off event in Norway and have been invited to the Norwegian Somali Cultural event. This project itself is surreal and serves as an example for the Somali Diaspora Community in the Nordics, despite what's going on and how the Somali Diaspora is portrayed. We want to strengthen the good image, uplift more youth and young adults, and last but not least, build trust and stronger linkages in our societies and with our governments. 🤝 We are delighted to see growing participation in this Nordic project and hope it will further enhance national engagement. As we celebrate this achievement , we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the learners and knowledge enthusiasts, academics and students, and all our local community volunteers. This success wouldn't be possible without your support! And a huge thanks to Somalisk Studentforening and Somalisk Studenterorganisation🤎 Find more on our tiktok: @Somaliskakademiker (https://lnkd.in/dGNr_5HR

Since its founding in 1993, Somalisk Studentforening (SSF) has been dedicated to creating a strong network for Somali students, providing them with support through connections to industry leaders and notable figures. In addition to academic mentorship, we’ve focused on fostering an environment where students can build meaningful friendships and enrich their university experience✨ Recently, we expanded our efforts by collaborating with Somali student organizations from Denmark (Somalisk Studenterorganisation) and (Somaliska Akademiker - SA) from Sweden. Recognizing our shared vision, we created the Nordic Somali Academic Network (NSAN), a unified platform for Somali students across the Nordic region. This past weekend, SSF proudly hosted the first NSAN event in Oslo, a successful gathering where we presented our goals to a wide audience. We were honoured to have Marian Hussein, a Somali-Norwegian MP, at the Norwegian parliament, to have joined us for a motivational speech, Highlighting the importance of networking in our current society. Following the presentations, we enjoyed a wide range of engaging activities, with over 120 participants attending💃🕺🏾 We are especially grateful to Marian Hussein for taking time out of her busy schedule to give our guests an exclusive tour of the Norwegian Parliament, offering valuable insights into the Norwegian political system. Her presence and ongoing commitment to serving as a positive role model for the Somali community are truly inspiring!!👏🏾👏🏾 Lastly, a huge thank you to all of our guests for bringing such great energy and making this weekend unforgettable. We can’t wait to see everyone again at the next NSAN gathering in Sweden or Denmark!😊

🚀 What an incredible few weeks it has been! We’ve just wrapped up a whirlwind of events across different cities, and this past weekend was a true highlight as we celebrated our successful collaboration with the Somali Cultural Festival—the largest cultural and literature festival in Northern Europe! This year’s festival saw record-breaking attendance, a testament to the hard work and passion of everyone involved. A huge shoutout to the amazing team—Degmo, Musa, Muna, and the rest of the crew—who brought this initiative to life. Your dedication has truly shone through and created a memorable experience for everyone. This year, Somaliska Akademiker was proud to contribute with a dynamic panel discussion that resonated deeply with the audience, along with an educational fair we hosted early Saturday. We were joined by our wonderful partners, Svensk-somaliska Alumnis and Svensk-Somaliska Läkarföreningen, and ended the day with a vibrant networking session for students and professionals. Thank you to all our partners and participants who made this possible. Also our vice president Awil , our SA co-founder Hibaakh, and last but not least our president Sarah. We’re excited for future collaborations! Key Takeaways from Our Panel Discussion: 1. Somali Mobilization: Somalis are among the most organized minority communities in Sweden, with more associations and organizations than any other group—demonstrating a strong sense of community and unity. 2. Rising Academics & Entrepreneurs: With nearly 100,000 Somalis in Sweden, there has been a significant rise in Somali academics and successful entrepreneurs. 3. Challenges for Youth: However, we also see a concerning trend among our youth, particularly young men, who are increasingly at risk of criminal influences and dangerous lifestyles. 4. The Need for Role Models: There’s a pressing need to display and support more role models to inspire the next generation. If you’re planning a visit to Stockholm and want to be part of our upcoming events, make sure to follow us on Instagram for updates: https://lnkd.in/eBs_GBxQ Thank you again to everyone who helped make this festival a success! Here’s to building more connections, celebrating our culture, and uplifting our community. 🌟 #SomaliskaAkademiker #SomaliCulturalFestival #CommunityUnity

  • This weekend, we had the pleasure of kicking off the new season with our fantastic members in Stockholm. The event was packed with networking sessions and group discussions about our community here in Sweden and across the Nordics. 🌍 Our group discussions laid a foundation for our mission and helped us reflect on why we exist as an organisation. We also took a hard look at the challenges facing our society and explored the actions we need to take as young people and academics to address them. According to SCB (Swedish Statistical Bureau ) , there are 64 underserved suburbs in Sweden, and only 40% of children and youth in these areas graduate high school. Unfortunately, this number has been declining in recent years. On a more positive note, the SCB reports that girls with an immigrant backgrounds are the group that to the greatest extent continue their studies after high school. Fascinating right? This enhances the importance of the work we do. We aim to empower more youth in our society to achieve their potential and, in doing so, help close the growing gaps in society. ❣ Become a member at you local SA, and join us. We'd love to hear from you too!
