Our colleague Patrick Mutter just got his paper on the first ever waveguide based Backward Wave Optical Parametric Oscillator (BWOPO) published. This enables extremely compact narrowband laser sources in the MIR and also has great potential for quantum optics.
Excited to share our new research on Backward Wave Optical Parametric Oscillation (BWOPO) in a waveguide, published in Nature NPJ Nanophotonics. This marks the first-ever waveguide-based BWOPO, offering a 19x lower oscillation threshold making pumping with compact Q-switched or gain-switched microchip lasers a compelling option. These advances also promise huge potential for quantum optics—enabling the development of ultra-compact, high-efficiency narrowband photon sources ideal for quantum computing and communications.
