Upcycling may be the only way to ‘save ourselves’ in a world seeing up to 50% loss of harvestable cacao, burdened by roughly 10-billion tonnes of plastic waste, ~ 50-million tonnes of discarded cigarette butts accumulated, & adding 5.5 tonnes of waste DAILY. Several days ago I featured Naman Gupta & Code Effort Private Limited who are upcycling cigarette butts to make stuffed animals, paper, textile & clothes, who are contributing greatly to the solution. We are seeing a huge decline in cacao production due to climate change, & the chocolate production industry has historically contributed to child & slave labor, deforestation & biodiversity loss. But I don’t break bad news without good news to ‘right the wrongs’, so today am proud to also feature Voyage Foods — a company upcycling grape seeds from the wine industry that historically are discarded as waste. One’s trash is another’s treasure, & can be hugely net-positive for humanity! Their chocolate-alternative is sustainable, ethical, delicious, healthy & also ‘part of the solution’. Grape seeds also contain resveratrol which is an incredibly healthy compound only found in red grapes (although much more in the skins than seeds tbh). It helps with inflammation, circulation, & much more. Voyage Foods is also working on an alternative to coffee using chickpeas as the base, & caffeine from green tea. To take on two of humanities favorite foodstuffs — chocolate & coffee — takes some “beans”, but it’s this type of disruptive thinking coupled with action that can help us all, and our earth, happy & healthy for the foreseeable future. I applaud all working on upcycling, alternatives to products that will see a decline in availability, & all initiatives to keep plastics & waste at a minimum. Det står klart efter en dom den 19 oktober. Asplund har hävdat att Mio plagierat deras prisbelönta designerbord ”Palais Royal” och domstolen går på Asplunds linje.
