News alert: Soon our fossil-free steel will clad part of the façade of one of Amazon Web Services (AWS) three new data centers in Sweden. ⚡ The deal is part of a collaboration agreement between SSAB and AWS for deliveries of fossil-free steel. Our subsidiary Ruukki Construction will supply roof and wall structures for the buildings. “We are thrilled to welcome AWS as a new partner. By choosing steel made with the HYBRIT technology, AWS shows it’s possible to reduce the carbon footprint of data center construction regardless of whether the steel is made from scrap or virgin iron ore,” says Thomas Hörnfeldt, VP of Sustainable Business at SSAB. Swedish manufacturer NTT Group has boosted durability by switching to SSAB’s Hardox® HiAce wear steel. The company, known for delivering power transmission components, extended the lifespan of their sliding plates even in the toughest environments, exceeding customer expectations. ⚙ “We have an excellent relationship with SSAB. They have extensive technical know-how that we can always use whenever we or our customers have questions. It is also a bit special to be early in using this new material and processing it, but we have received a lot of help from SSAB,” says Johnny Andersson, supervisor at NTT Group. What are the first weeks like for a new CEO? We asked Johnny Sjöström who started as SSAB’s CEO on October 28. 👷♂️ “I’ve now visited our main production sites in Sweden, Finland and the USA to meet employees and managers. Although I have long experience at SSAB, I want to get to know all the areas of the company and our employees even better. I feel thrilled and honored to lead us in this new phase,” Johnny says. Johnny is proud of the safety work done across the organization and states how SSAB’s strategy of growing the share of premium products and investing in new technologies remains unchanged: “SSAB, being a world leader in high-strength steels, is well placed for the future. This position and our stable financial situation also make SSAB more resilient to different business cycles. I feel confident about our strategy, it’s well anchored. We’ll continue to develop unique products that add value for our customers. From 2025, Volvo Trucks plans to use SSAB Zero™, a steel made using recycled steel and fossil-free energy, in the production of around 12,000 trucks. Our emission-free SSAB Zero™ steel takes to the waves! 🚢 SSAB’s subsidiary Tibnor is to supply SSAB Zero™ steel made from recycled steel to Salthammer Båtbyggeri AS in Norway. These will be the first batches of SSAB Zero™ to be delivered to the shipbuilding industry. “The quality and properties of SSAB Zero are equal to those of SSAB’s conventional steels. SSAB Zero can help the entire marine and offshore industry to reduce carbon emissions without compromising quality standards,” says Matts Nilsson, Head of Sales for Sweden and Norway at SSAB Europe. Swedish manufacturer NTT Group, known for delivering power transmission components, has taken durability to a new level by upgrading to Hardox® HiAce wear steel. Customer feedback has been outstanding as they see the steel holding up better even in the toughest environments. One of NTT’s recent challenges was a pulp and paper mill where their sliding steel plates were constantly worn down by the harsh conditions. Upgrading to the corrosion-resistant wear steel not only solved the customer’s issue but also increased product lifespan by up to two times.
