Amazing to have been a witness and contributor to enabling this unprecedented event : a #water #Presidency declaration at the #Climate #COP! The #Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate was launched yesterday and opens a pathway forward in what I call the 3 C’s for effective water #resilient climate policies : Continuity, consistency and coordination. SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute will support this endeavour and contribute via coordinating the #water4climate pavilion , the #MPGCA #GCA #HLClimateChampions work stream on water, #WWW2025, #worldwaterweek dedicated to #ClimateAction and the #RyadActionAgenda so that water becomes the blue thread connecting the #3Rioconventions.

SIWI is one of the founders of the #waterForClimate Pavilion and chairs the Steering Committee on the road to #COP29. This year, the Pavilion unites over 70 partners, more than double compared to when the project started at COP26: “There is a greater diversity of partners who are not necessarily focused on water. When you get others on board who are not from the water sector to be champions for water within their spheres of influence, it has much broader impact”, highlights Dani Gaillard-Picher. She adds: “The Water for Climate Pavilion is a huge collective effort, which is what makes it successful. At #COP29, SIWI engages amongst other things through the #Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (#MPGCA). The MPGCA is an official UNFCCC mechanism intended for non-state actors established with the Paris Agreement at COP21: “At the time, we were on a course to a four degrees temperature rise. With Paris came the acknowledgement that countries cannot respond to climate change alone,” says Maggie White, Senior Manager for International Policies at SIWI. The partnership helps to “show why it is important to engage with non-state actors and facilitates this.” Within the Partnership, SIWI serves as a focal point for water and also coordinates the water agenda within the Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda (SAA): “Over the years, we were able to highlight why water is important for other communities. I can really see now how the seed of bringing water to other thematic areas has picked up.
