Amazing to have been a witness and contributor to enabling this unprecedented event : a #water #Presidency declaration at the #Climate #COP! The #Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate was launched yesterday and opens a pathway forward in what I call the 3 C’s for effective water #resilient climate policies : Continuity, consistency and coordination. SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute will support this endeavour and contribute via coordinating the #water4climate pavilion , the #MPGCA #GCA #HLClimateChampions work stream on water, #WWW2025, #worldwaterweek dedicated to #ClimateAction and the #RyadActionAgenda so that water becomes the blue thread connecting the #3Rioconventions.
Earth is a blue planet. Yet, nearly three billion people face water scarcity. Over 90% of disasters are water-related, including drought, desertification, fires and floods. Crops and livestock are wasting away in dry spells. Competition between sectors – agriculture, urban supplies and industry – is growing. Cities are slowly sinking as the groundwater is depleted beneath them. As climate change intensifies, and it is intensifying, things will only get worse. Everyone will suffer. Today at #COP29 the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action was launched to strengthen water action within the global climate agenda. UN Environment Programme is pleased to host this initiative and ready to place nature and the human rights to a healthy environment and access to water and sanitation at the heart of this dynamic collaborative approach. Water is our most valuable resource, more precious than all the gems and metals in the world. We must protect it.
