Patient advocacy groups are a cornerstone in advancing the healthcare agenda and ensuring a patient-centered approach. This year, EUROPA DONNA - The European Breast Cancer Coalition celebrates its 30th birthday of advocating for better breast cancer care across Europe. IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics had the great pleasure of celebrating this birthday in Milan with a presentation by Thomas Hofmarcher on 30 years of progress in breast cancer care in Europe. ℹ Successful patient advocacy rests on evidence-based research. At IHE, we work with national and international patient groups to generate evidence for impactful advocacy. Feel free to reach out to Thomas or ihe@ihe.se if you have any questions! ℹ See also our previous post about IHE’s recent work on breast cancer: https://lnkd.in/dai7hhuZ #PatientAdvocacy #HealthcareInnovation #BreastCancer #BreastCancerAwareness #EvidenceBasedResearch #PublicHealth #HealthEconomics

📣 Today, 14th November, it is World Diabetes Day aiming to create awareness and increase knowledge about #diabetes and its associated diseases, and this year’s theme is diabetes and well-being. IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics has long and broad experience in research on the economics of diabetes and has over the years contributed to a better understanding of the disease and the value of interventions to improve the situation for people living with diabetes https://lnkd.in/dDcsD8QY 🖥 Many of IHE´s studies in diabetes are based on our well-established economic #models (ECHO-T2DM and IHE-DCM) that are used in several countries around the world to estimate the #costeffectiveness of interventions for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Diabetes #prevention is an important area of research for IHE. In recent years, new knowledge about risk prediction of type 1 diabetes enables the possibility to detect the disease in an earlier stage, before symptoms have emerged, and treatments for delaying disease onset are currently under development. In collaboration with universities in Sweden and Denmark, IHE is involved in projects aiming at exploring the cost-effectiveness of screening for type 1 diabetes. 📧 Please contact us if you would like to know more about our work in diabetes and how our diabetes models can be useful for you: ihe@ihe.se www.ihe.se

Germany’s national cancer plan was launched in 2008 with the aim to improve oncology care in the country. In order to inspire and enrich the discussion about an update of the plan, the German branch of All.Can International organized a workshop in Berlin to shed light on international experiences. IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics's Thomas Hofmarcher presented a #dashboard-style comparison trying to answer the question “How good is Germany's cancer care in a European context?”. The aim of the workshop was to identify areas where action is needed and to develop proposals to discuss them with political representatives and their inclusion in a new national cancer plan. #cancerplan #dashboard #benchmark #Germany

A new study from IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics has recently been published in two articles that provides additional insights into the ultra-rare disease arginase 1 deficiency (ARG1-D). 💡 ARG1-D is a metabolic disease which may cause spastic paraplegia, cognitive deficiency, seizures, and ultimately severe disability. In a European survey study of 21 individuals with ARG1-D, it was shown that this disease may cause severe cognitive and mobility impairment which has an impact on quality of life, societal costs, and caregiver burden. The study was a collaboration between IHE, Immedica Pharma AB and ARG1-D clinical expertise at hospitals in Europe. 💡 Today, 29 October, it's World Psoriasis Day (#IFPA) aiming to raise awareness of #psoriasis, and its burden on those affected. Around 60 million people worldwide live with psoriasis. In Sweden, around 300,000 people have the disease, of which around a third also have problems with their joints, known as psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis comes in different forms, the most common being plaque psoriasis. A rare form, which can be life-threatening if left untreated, is generalised pustular psoriasis. IHE - The Swedish Institute for Health Economics has a long experience in the field of psoriasis and has contributed to a better understanding of the disease with several publications. Our two most recent studies describe health-related quality of life (#HRQoL) among people with generalised pustular psoriasis and palmoplantar pustulosis.
