On the third and final day of the conference DevRes 2024, the focus was mainly on societal impact, activism and the need to build trust. But also the difficulties in doing so. The audience was shown great examples of societal impact and successful collaborations between research, community and organisations. Several speakers also talked about the risks involved for both researchers and the communities that engage in these issues. We are grateful for another day full of new insights and valuable lessons. View the full conference programme here: https://lnkd.in/dunRfp2t Speakers shown in the photos: Susan Chomba, Diana Nabiruma from AFIEGO and Heather Mackay. #devres2024

Now we're looking forward to the very last day of the conference, and we are proud to present todays programme with keynote speakers such as Susan Chomba and representatives from Mother Nature Cambodja and Africa Institute for Energy Governance. Later, we will delve deeper into the societal impact research can have, by letting researchers present nine different impact stories. Get a deeper look into the programme here: https://lnkd.in/dunRfp2t

Johan Preis is co-author of a new book released today, "Läget i staden: Fallet Norra Sorgenfri, mellanrummet och innerstaden som löfte." (translated: The State of the City: The Case of Norra Sorgenfri, the Gap and the Promise of the Inner City.) The other authors are Erik Jönsson and Miriam Negash. The book provides leading planning researchers and historians with perspectives on the two-decade-long transformation of Malmö's neighborhood Norra Sorgenfri. The texts follow how planning visions, work and opportunities in the city have changed over time and use Norra Sorgenfri as a starting point for a study of Malmö as both a city and a symbolically charged place. For a long time, Norra Sorgenfri was seen as a gap in the middle of Malmö, a largely de-industrialized area between the central and eastern parts of the city. Here, politicians and planners imagined that a new, socially sustainable neighborhood would emerge and unite a segregated city. The book can be seen as a popular science final report and a critical review of how the area was framed in the planning, the visions that guided the transformation work, what has emerged and what has been lost in the process.
