While the exact details around Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are yet to be agreed upon, it has not stopped us from pushing ahead with our own innovations and pilot programs. In this feature from InternetRetailing's Sustainability Annual Report 2024, Jenny Wärn talks about the many facets of DPPs, how they can be used to tell the product story and where value could be added. Additionally, she shares learnings from working with brands like Kappahl Group and Marimekko in our DPP pilot project and what we’ll take with us into future collaborations on DPPs. To learn more about our work and how you can prepare for the implementation of DPPs, read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gJbff-75

𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀: 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 At COP29’s Swedish Pavilion, we brought together industry leaders to chart a path for fashion’s supply chains to achieve net-zero emissions. The message was clear: we have the tools, knowledge, and funding—but unlocking action at scale requires the right collaboration frameworks, granular data, and shared accountability. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 To decarbonize supply chains, 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 is essential. As Henrik Sundberg from H&M Group explained, collecting monthly energy data from suppliers allows brands to pinpoint what’s working and what needs improvement. It helps distinguish between no-cost solutions that can be implemented immediately and more complex interventions, such as solar panel installations, which depend on local policy. These insights empower brands to craft concrete, prioritized action plans. However, data alone isn’t enough. According to our CEO, Shameek Ghosh, “We know the WHAT—now it’s about executing the HOW.” Real-time, standardized data-sharing frameworks can make decarbonization 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, turning manual processes into efficient, measurable systems. Without this level of detail, achieving Scope 3 reductions remains out of reach. Collaboration emerged as the cornerstone of progress. Jens Nielsen from the World Climate Foundation emphasized that partnerships have already moved the needle globally, from a projected 4°C of warming before the Paris Agreement to 2.5°C on a good day. But in fashion, the challenge is uniquely complex—supply chains are fragmented, involving consumers and a wide range of environmental and social impacts. This makes detail-oriented, cross-sector approaches even more critical. Financing is the final piece of the puzzle. As Lewis Perkins from the Apparel Impact Institute noted, we have the funding, and we know what needs to be done. What’s missing is the right incentive structures to collaborate with suppliers who do the work on the ground. Supply chains are shared between brands, so financing must be collaborative too, leveraging diverse sources—philanthropy, grants, debt, and equity—to meet suppliers’ varied needs with tailored tools and support. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁? Granular data and collaborative financing unlock scalable solutions, empowering suppliers to act while ensuring transparency and accountability across the value chain. With the right tools, partnerships, and shared incentives, fashion can take a leading role in decarbonization—setting an example for industries worldwide. 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿.
