Join me and Vera Budean next Monday for a free webinar with Corporate Rebels about how to navigate tough talks in self-managing teams. We'll be bringing our collective experience from the last two decades of supporting teams to be self-managing in Tuff Leadership Training and we'll be sharing some useful 💡 principles and tools, as well as some 🪤 'traps' to watch out for. You'll also get a tiny taste of how we approach training people in the mindset and skillset shift needed to cultivate thriving self-managing teams – something we'll dive into in much more detail in our Self-Management Bootcamp coming up in January 2025: https://lnkd.in/d3sPGJZs

Feedback’s easy… until it isn’t. We all say we want a great feedback culture, but so many things get in the way: ✋ The "prison of politeness" where we avoid tough talks ✋ Fear of hurting feelings or making things awkward ✋ Gossip culture filling the void when feedback feels impossible ✋ Struggling to hold each other accountable not in a top-down way But here’s the truth: thriving teams aren’t built on silence or sugarcoating. They’re built on honest, messy, and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. 🎙️ Join Lisa Gill and Vera Budean from Tuff Leadership Training to learn how to master the art of tough talks and strengthen relationships in a self-managing team. Because self-management is much more than upgrading the structures and processes. It’s also about building trust, addressing pitfalls, and shifting mindsets to work in a new way. 📢 Got any questions for Lisa and Vera? Drop them below, and come back on 16 December to hear the answers👇 #CorporateRebels #Mindset #SelfDevelopment #Feedback #Communication

If you have been following us but haven't yet taken one of our programmes, or if you are a Tuff fan and want a colleague or someone you know to benefit from the Tuff training experience, have a look at what's coming up. 🔸 Tuff Training: Leading Individuals (aka Step 1) is our flagship training in the fundamentals of a more adult-adult, coaching way of leading and collaborating. You can join one of our in-person programmes or one of our highly practical online programmes. 🔸 Tuff Training: Leading Teams (aka Step 2) is a training that goes deeper into leading adult-adult and how you lead teams and unleash potential and self leadership in your team. 🔸 Tuff training for HR professionals - a training that breaks the unhelpful dynamic between HR and business leaders by upgrading your conversations. Testimomials about Step 1: 💬 "𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦: “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥”, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨." 💬 "𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 '𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦' 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨." 💬 "𝘈 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥-𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵." 💬 "𝘉𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘻𝘰𝘯𝘦... • Tuff is the last leadership training you will ever need! Not because we are particularly brilliant, or because you get an MBA or because it is a ‘silver bullet’. But because we give you a fundamental shift that allows you to have a big impact now and how you learn for a lifetime. 👉 We help leaders to upgrade the operating system - not just more ‘apps’. When the operating system is upgraded the apps work better. 👉 It is personal, frank and tough (tuff) meaning you can’t participate and not be changed. Our philosophy is that (self) leadership isn’t about knowing more theory but about showing up in a completely different way. 👉 It supports a real culture shift through changing how those who have power give it away without giving away accountability (it's why we are often the go-to for those wanting more self-management too) Beyond Step 1 (that shifts how we relate to others) and Step 2 (how we relate to groups) we don’t try to sell the next programme. Yes you can get coaching, advice and ‘workout sessions’ but it is all with a goal to creating independence not dependence. So the sustainability comes from transforming organisations through leaders, not just the leaders themselves, through having a plan of sustained support rather than constant retraining, and our committed goal through every trainer is to create a fundamental and irreversible shift. Supporting mindset and culture shifts

One year at Tuff Leadership Training and I’ve received more feedback than in all my career: qualities, pitfalls, how I appear to others… Destabilizing but worth it: - I’ve learnt so much, this is HUGE personal development - If there is something with me, I know people will tell me. So I stopped speculating - Much richer and more satisfying relationships at work, even if working remotely So how do we do that: - We regularly reflect and name what we want feedback on. What is needed for our job and what we are struggling with. So everybody has my mandate to give me feedback on what I value most - We are very clear if feedback is for the other person’s sake, for the sake of the relationship or for the sake of the company. So feedback is never suspicious of manipulation or conflict of interest - We give and receive feedback all the time. Sometimes we decide to take it, sometimes we decide not to. There is no drama, no need to be sure and ready, no fear to hurt Want to know more about an adult-adult way of giving feedback? Read the post from my colleague Lisa Gill

  • Are you exploring new ways of working? Do you want to supercharge your collaboration by undergoing the inner shift that's needed for truly self-managing teams to thrive? Then we have good news! We have teamed up with Corporate Rebels, world leaders in curating knowledge about progressive organisations, to offer a specially designed 'Self-Management Bootcamp'. Tuff has twenty years' experience in supporting organisations to transition to self-management and we have spent those decades honing our transformation programmes to help leaders and individuals to undergo a mindset and skillset shift. There are lots of habits from the old paradigm to unlearn – many we don't even realise we are doing. We're proud of our ability to create safe – and brave – spaces where people quickly see their tendencies and get plenty of opportunities to try out another way of being. And of course we're called Tuff for a reason! So this programme is going to be intensive and challenging, with loads of practice, feedback and coaching from our Tuff trainers. You'll learn: 👉 A new concept of what leadership and collaboration needs to look like without top-down, traditional hierarchies 👉 How to have conversations that unleash self-leadership, development and responsibility around you 👉 How to develop relationships and teams built on genuine psychological safety (and not 'psychological comfort') 👉 How to create a culture of development and accountability (as opposed to it being just an aspiration) 👉 How to create true shared responsibility in teams and how to get out of decision-making dead-ends 👉 How to transform conflicts in groups, instead of tip-toeing around them 👉 Insights about yourself and new possibilities in terms of your 'way of being' as a collaborator or leader You'll find the link to learn more or to sign up in the comments.

  • This autumn, we have had two programmes of Tuff Training for HR, and we feel proud when we see what previous participants have written: 💬 “An eye-opener for how to be direct, clear, and humble for someone else's sake, and thereby become bolder and more powerful in my HR role.” 💬 “It's hard to describe the training briefly; it’s an incredibly successful concept, perfectly timed, and I will do everything I can to share and inform others about this training!” 💬 “This training has given me time to reflect on myself and my professional role. I have reduced my workload because I have started placing the res 💬 ponsibility for situations and tasks with those to whom it truly belongs.” 💬 “This training is an opportunity to increase your ability to choose your approach in your interactions with employees and managers. I make more conscious choices today. All the practical training has given me space to learn, try new things, and refine myself to become my best self - allowing more space for others to grow.” If you're curious, check out these opportunities: ✔️ We have a free webinar about this training (4th of November and 5th of December): https://lnkd.in/drTp9Eqg ✔️ In 2025 we offer this training online in English, read more and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dseTkAy4 ✔️ And face to face in Swedish in Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm, read more and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dkAxwEcJ

  • Is your performance management system just a box-ticking exercise? We know performance management systems are a big challenge for so many of our clients. With the best of intentions, so much energy goes into try to make them valuable and fair. And yet, managers and employees and HR often still hate them! We've also seen so much research over the years about how little value performance management systems add. So why has little changed? Perhaps it's because the assumptions baked into our performance management approaches are so strong. Assumptions like: 🔺 People must be ‘managed’ to perform 🔺 Employees need to be told what to do and make bad choices without direction 🔺 Without consistency, you will always have unfairness. With consistency, unfairness is prevented 🔺 The organisation must always have statements or policies for managers and leaders to fall back on in tough conversation. In this blog, Trevor Hudson (MSc MABP FLPI) offers alternatives for each of these assumptions. https://lnkd.in/dyHrppZi #DisruptHR #PerformanceRevolution #Leadership #CultureShift #TuffLeadership

  • What is the missing piece for shifting our organisations? We need to shift. Away from traditional, hierarchical, top-down ways of working, and towards ways of working that are more adaptive, agile, and self-directed.But there is a crucial piece that most organisations are not aware of. Without this piece, any efforts to shift the culture, leadership, or ways of working will fail. This webinar is about that missing piece. We provocatively call it: Stop Motivating Your Employees! WHO IS THIS FOR? This webinar is for two main audiences: people responsible for leadership training in organisations (for example, heads of Learning and Development, HR, People, or Culture); and managers or leaders interested in participating in one of our programmes. WHAT IS IT? An interactive session about how we can view leadership and organisational culture in a totally different way. You will also discover what mindset and skills leaders need to develop in order to create real shifts. It will be nothing like a normal webinar. It will be a mix of input and practical, interactive elements using breakout rooms. WHAT YOU WILL GET You’ll gain new insights about leadership and organisational culture, as well as a clear understanding of how Tuff creates concrete results such as: --> shifting leaders’ way of being, from unconsciously hierarchical (what we call a ‘parent-child’ dynamic) to new awareness and an ability to be equal-equal (adult-adult) --> the ability to really listen, so that people around them feel heard -- > the confidence to give feedback in a way that creates breakthroughs in others’ development JOIN US! The next webinar is this Friday, the 25th of October from 10:00-12:00 Central European Time or 9:00-11:00 UK time. Click here to book your free place - https://lnkd.in/d3zRZuSY
