Stop scrolling if you are into production engineering! Look at these new automated transporters powered by AI and computer vision. “The solution uses deep learning algorithms to identify humans, robots, and other traffic, which are then used for navigating the transporters in the factory. Since the navigation and intelligence is located outside the robots, the transporters themselves are very simple and easy to use,” says Kristofer Bengtsson, Senior Researcher Digital Operations. This user-friendly approach is a game-changer. The transporters bring affordability and simplicity to our industry and are flexible enough to meet our evolving production environment.

Today we mark the passing of Pehr Gustaf Gyllenhammar. Born in 1935, Pehr Gustaf (PG), was a transformative figure in the history of Volvo. He took the reigns as CEO in 1971 at the age of 35, leading the company until 1983. His tenure was marked by an era of change, innovation, and progress, positioning Volvo as a global leader in the automotive industry. Following his time as CEO, he served as Chairman of the Board of AB Volvo between 1983 and 1993. Gyllenhammar, like his predecessors, believed that the automotive industry had a fundamental responsibility to protect its customers. During his time at Volvo he popularized the three-point safety belt, which Volvo introduced in 1959. The Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), and the rearward-facing child seat, are amongst other notable innovations of his time. Environmental care and sustainability were high on his list achievements during the 1970s and 80s, overseeing the first introduction of the oxygen sensor, (Lambda Sond) which improved engine efficiency and reduced emissions. During his tenure, Gyllenhammar focused on expanding Volvo’s global footprint, transforming Volvo from a regional player into a globally recognized brand. His strategic vision ensured Volvo’s resilience and growth, navigating the company through economic fluctuations and industry challenges. His visionary leadership left an indelible mark on the company, shaping it into a global leader, renowned for its commitment to safety, sustainability, and progressive labor practices.
