🌍 Exceeding Environmental Requirements: Shanghai Zhuyuan Project Wins Ecolution Award! 🏆 We are proud to recognise the Shanghai Zhuyuan project as one of the winners of Wilo's Ecolution Award! This visionary project is setting new standards in wastewater treatment and making a significant impact on the environment. With the fourth phase of its expansion, the Zhuyuan wastewater treatment plant in Shanghai has become one of Asia's largest, with a capacity of 3.4 million cubic metres per day. This plant serves around 6 million people and supports the sustainable development of Shanghai by improving water quality and reducing ecological pressures. 🌊 To achieve its goals of high efficiency and future-proof sustainability, Shanghai turned to innovative technology. Wilo's contribution to the project includes supplying 144 Wilo-EMU TR mixers known for their efficiency and reliability. These submersible mixers optimise the treatment processes through effective mixing, leading to reduced energy consumption and operating costs. 💡 Wilo's engineering team utilised state-of-the-art digital methods, such as BIM models and CFD simulations, to ensure seamless integration and performance of the submersible mixers within the digital management system of the wastewater treatment plant. This precise planning allowed for high efficiency even under the challenging conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. 📈 The comprehensive wastewater and energy process implemented at Zhuyuan includes classic biological treatment stages, disinfection, and filtration using UV light and activated carbon. Additionally, the innovative sludge management system involves drying the sludge for co-incineration in nearby power plants, utilising waste heat to increase efficiency. The integration of a photovoltaic system generates over 830 million kWh annually, reducing CO2 emissions by 3,500 tonnes. 🌞 The fourth expansion stage of the Zhuyuan wastewater treatment plant showcases a remarkable symbiosis of technology and environmental awareness. Nagalwadi Irrigation Project in India Wins Wilo Ecolution Award for Enhancing Operational Reliability 🌾🏆 We are proud to announce that Laxmi Civil Engineering Private Limited has been honoured at the exclusive Wilo #Ecolution Award ceremony for their outstanding contribution to the #water #industry. Their visionary project, the Nagalwadi irrigation system in Madhya Pradesh, #India, is revolutionising agricultural water supply and improving the lives of thousands of farmers. The Nagalwadi irrigation project aims to provide reliable irrigation to 47,000 hectares of farmland across 106 villages in a region where agriculture is the primary sector employing 80% of the population. These villages have faced long-term water shortages and limited access to irrigation, hindering agricultural productivity. This innovative solution lifts water from the Narmada River, diverting it to higher elevated areas, ensuring an equitable distribution of water and transforming the living standards of farmers. The project's impact is far-reaching, contributing to economic and ecological development while increasing agricultural productivity and quality of life in rural regions. The complex infrastructure and technological implementation are the key factors contributing to the success of this project. It includes seven pumping stations equipped with 36 sets of Wilo's high-efficiency and operationally reliable vertical turbine pumps. These pumps meet strict efficiency criteria, minimising energy consumption and ensuring sustainable operation. Furthermore, customer-specific control and monitoring technology play a crucial role. Advanced PLC and Web-based SCADA systems enable remote control and real-time monitoring of water levels, pressure, and flow in all pump stations. This ensures equitable water distribution and allows farmers to access the system via their smartphones, thanks to a long-range LoRa WAN-based communication system. To maximise efficiency, the project also offers training and awareness programmes for farmers, promoting the use of modern irrigation techniques and improved Water Use Efficiency (WUE). The Nagalwadi irrigation project goes beyond immediate impact, serving as a model for resource efficiency and operational reliability, contributing to sustainable infrastructure and food supply security. I am happy, proud, and humbled. 🙏   The Wilo Group received the SDG Innovation Award for its outstanding commitment in the Global South.   Recently, the award was presented by the Senat der Wirtschaft Deutschland in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).   I had the honour of receiving the award on behalf of the Wilo team in Munich. During discussions at the award ceremony, I emphasised the importance of international collaboration: Partnerships between the Global North and South are crucial to transforming the world in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).   As a multinational technology company, we see it as our responsibility to actively engage in such partnerships. This commitment is firmly embedded in our sustainability strategy.   We are convinced that real partnerships take place on equal footing. That is why we empower local actors in the Global South to assume responsibility for sustainable development.   An excellent example of this are the develoPPP projects that we are implementing in collaboration with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). 🤝   The award-winning develoPPP project that Wilo is carrying out in Mongolia in cooperation with BMZ demonstrates the effective deployment of sustainable innovations. As part of the project, heating systems in public buildings such as schools, kindergartens, and administrative buildings were modernised.   The aim was to increase energy efficiency and contribute to climate protection. Lars Behrendt´s #InnoWeek approach, a concept designed to validate the product-market fit at a very early stage, even before significant investments in innovation projects are made.   The key takeaway is clear: working closely with real customers and market partners on innovations from the earliest stages is crucial.
