Moss Havn KF is exploring innovative energy storage solutions together with the Port of #Korsør in REDII Ports project. As part of the electrification efforts from Port of #Moss 🔌, they are investigating the installation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) 🔋 and alternative energy sources like solar cells to meet rising energy demands and achieve a #zero-#emission target by 2030. In collaboration with Sweco and Fagskolen Oslo Akershus, the port has developed reports on energy storage and charging facilities for electric container trucks 🚚. We extend our congratulations to the members of the new College of Commissioners. The engagement of authorities on every level - be it local, regional, or national - is crucial in this next period.   🇪🇺 Collaboration without borders, also beyond 2027 🌍 Earlier this year, many of you shared your thoughts on the future of European cooperation. The preparations for the next programming period are moving forward. Christian Byrith and Sarah Holsen are in Brussels at the Post 2027 | Harvesting Event, hosted by the European Commission. A very big thank you to Provincie Fryslân 🇳🇱, and especially Cllr. Matthijs de Vries, for graciously hosting our NSC Transport Working Group! Attendees were able to visit the beautiful harbour city of Harlingen as well as learn about the shared space initiative in Leeuwarden. This meeting was a great opportunity to share knowledge on accessibility and to begin the process of setting up the next action plan for our work on transport! NSC President Cllr. Elisabet Babic was in attendance as a part of our Presidency's plan to maintains an overview of each of our thematic working groups. Our North Sea Commission president, Cllr Elisabet Babic, is taking a road trip around the Netherlands today 🚗🇳🇱 The day started bright and early with a meeting with Cllr Esther Rommel from the Province of Noord Holland (Provincie Noord-Holland). Noord Holland has been especially involved with our work on #circulareconomy, and we are really looking forward to working even more closely on this topic (and others!) in the coming year. Then we arrived at Urk to meet with Cllr Jan Klopman from the Province of Flevoland (Provincie Flevoland), where we discussed #fisheries and #blueskills. We were lucky enough to be able to meet at Firda Maritieme Campus Urk, and see first-hand how the community had stepped up to meet the challenges they faced. Next stop ➡️ Provincie Groningen Then we shall continue on to our last top, Leeuwarden for the Transport Working Group meeting that is graciously being hosted by the Province of Fryslân (Provincie Fryslân). #northsea #wearethenorthsea

During a recent trip to Brussels with our NSC President, Cllr. Elisabet Babic (Region Halland), we were thrilled to have the opportunity to sit down with the Scottish Government Brussels office! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 It is very clear that not only are there many historical ties between Scottish regions and the rest of the regions around the North Sea, but the policy priorities remain very similar. In order to celebrate the beginning of European Hydrogen Week... a little throwback from Gozo! 🌍🌟 Our Energy & Climate Change Chair, Cllr Erlend Jordal (Rogaland fylkeskommune 🇳🇴) took the floor at the CPMR General Assembly this past month, in order to stress the importance of advancing the hydrogen economy in Europe's peripheral and maritime regions. With the North Sea region being host to Europe's first cross-border hydrogen valley, this is an especially important topic for us. "We need to be clearer about the vital role of maritime regions for the hydrogen economy. Our regions are critical nodes for distributing hydrogen to 'land-locked' regions, mostly relying on decentralised, more conflict-ridden onshore renewables. [Thus] the central role of maritime regions in enabling the feasibility and viability of the hydrogen economy must be elevated." #EUH2Week #NorthSea #WearetheNorthSea #HydrogenEconomy

We are happy to announce that we have a new advisor for our Energy and Climate Change working group! 🌱 Last week, during an extraordinary online Executive Committee meeting, Sarah Figenschou was appointed to the advisor position. From the region of Østfold (Østfold fylkeskommune) in Norway 🇳🇴, Sarah has a professional background in climate strategy and digitalisation. Over the next few weeks, she will be working alongside the ECCG Chair Cllr. Erlend Jordal and Vice-Chairs Cllr. Camilla Eidsvold and Cllr. Henrik Qvist to create this thematic working group’s plan for 2025!

On Monday, we had a joint North Sea Commission webinar hosted by our Youth Committee and the Smart Regions Working Group. For those that were unable to attend, take a look at some of the kew key points from the agenda 👇 🌱 There was a keynote presentation on the barriers and characteristics of effective youth participation by a representative from Schleswig-Holstein, in which participants had the opportunity to delve into the different levels of participation and how this can be fostered 🌱 Breakout room discussions were had between the different stakeholder groups including Youth, Administration, Politicians and NGO's 🌱 A representative from Vestland fylkeskommune's Youth Council in Norway gave a presentation on how youth participation has been integrated in their region 🌱 The discussions that emerged in this webinar revolved around the reflection that youth participation is a long-term endeavour that does require significant dedication from the relevant parties. Here, we have the opportunity to learn from our fellow North Sea regions KEY TAKEAWAY ➡️ given the great interest in a follow-up event, our Youth Committee will be putting together a second webinar in the first half of 2025.
