Recap: Werkstatt Kabel 2024 What a great time in Wiesbaden - the Werkstatt Kabel brought together experts and partners from the cable industry to share the latest insights on cable technology, measuring and testing technology as well as civil engineering and installation methods. That naturally included our colleagues from NKT Service & Installation. Highlights included hands-on demonstrations (such as Peter Selbach's demonstration of the transition technology from paper-insulated high-voltage cables to modern extruded cables), lively panel discussions, and insightful networking moments. Recap: 4th Annual Submarine Power Cable and Interconnection Forum Why do we get really excited when attending a conference or networking event? It's because we are eager to get professional exchange with others to discuss the current state of the art surrounding submarine power cables, their installation and management. Learning from best practices and explore new areas of innovation is one way to constantly improve our work and always get a little better. Which is why we were excited to be in London this week: The key players of the global subsea community gathered in Heathrow to exchange on key topics surrounding submarine power transmission systems. As chairman of the event, our colleague Jakub Vastmans guided the conference discussing current activities, future plans, challenges and opportunities with developers, operators, suppliers, insurers and other stakeholders. "We have seen a significant increase in the number of participants compared to previous years. I am very pleased to see that the topic is relevant in our community and that the exchange that this forum offers is appreciated." Axel Barnekow Widmark, Executive Vice President of Service & Installations, presented NKT's ongoing efforts in maximizing utilization of submarine assets through prevention, preparation for and mitigation of potential failures. The highlight of his presentation was a deep-dive on our activities in the digital space - more on that will come in the near future. Did you attend, too? Faces of NKT: Meet Patricia Ruckszio In this edition of our series #FacesofNKT, we'd like to introduce a rather new face, since Patricia just joined our team this year as a technical sales specialist. And we sure hope to keep her for quite a while, since she is a bundle of energy with a passion for technology and we love to have her in our team. In the short time Patricia has been with NKT, she has been working her way into oil cable technology and the transition to high-voltage XLPE systems.  "My main task will be the restoration and replacement of the existing oil cable routes and the exchange with new technologies as well as the technical conception and clarification of the feasibility of these projects." And what is Patricia's conclusion after the first months at NKT?  "I really like the variety of my job, every day is unique and there are always new and exciting topics to deal with.   Even though I am quite new to the field of high-voltage technology, my colleagues support me wherever they can and are happy to pass on their knowledge and expertise." One of these colleagues is Mario Langner, Senior Specialist Technical Sales at our Berlin office. He has been with NKT for 22 years and started in the industry 46 years ago, so we assume he has quite some experience to pass onto Patricia. With her beloved Goldendoodle Knut, she explores nature on long hikes or runs. It’s a Wrap: NKT Participates in the 5th Annual Baltic Offshore Wind Transmission Conference As the 2024 event season draws to a close, the 5th Annual Baltic Offshore Wind Transmission Conference stood out as one of the year’s final highlights. With our Service and Installation team as a sponsor, we were pleased to have colleagues represent us in Warsaw, Poland. Siddharth Uppal emphasized the importance of "Caring to Prepare" for subsea cable assets, discussing strategies to protect critical infrastructure essential for transmitting renewable energy across the Baltic Sea. “Growing demand for renewable power has driven exponential growth in offshore wind farms throughout Europe, particularly in the Baltic region. Therefore, we must act responsibly and consider how best to support cable reliability—and NKT is a strong partner for that," Siddharth explained. Additionally, Wojciech Chojnacki and Damir Pastuhovic took the opportunity to network with industry experts and discuss energy security in the region.
