Entry-level fintech education is coming soon for all workers! Global FinTech Institute (GFI) was thrilled to formalize a strategic partnership with National Trades Union Congress (NTUC)’s e2i, Employment & Employability Institute and the Banking and Financial Services Union (BFSU) through an MOU signing at the GFI Networking & Appreciation Night on 7th Nov 2024, during Singapore FinTech Festival at 80RR Fintech Hub SG. This collaboration is set to drive meaningful progress in the fintech sector by enhancing industry development, productivity, workforce welfare, and hiring support. The event brought together esteemed industry leaders, both local and international partners, and valued stakeholders from the fintech community. A highlight of the evening was the launch of GFI’s Chartered FinTech Associate (CFtA) certification—an entry-level credential designed to establish foundational fintech expertise and provide a pathway to the advanced Chartered Fintech Professional (CFtP) certification. Additionally, we introduced our LEARN platform, a comprehensive online learning management system that offers interactive resources to support ongoing professional development. We were honored to have Professor Patrick H.M. LOH, Co-Chairman of GFI, and Eugene Goh, Deputy Director at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), who leads global platform development within the FinTech Infrastructure Office, witness the signing of this MOU. Today’s first call was on Reuben Lim the CEO of Singapore FinTech Association (SFA) at 80RR Fintech Hub SG 80 Robinson Road here in Singapore. SFA has 800 corporate members representing over 8,000 people across different FinTech disciplines in Singapore from the main banks to small B2B operations. We are talking about setting up a mission for SFA members to London to identify opportunities for investment, partnership and hopefully to attract some of the fast growing businesses into London’s FinTech ecosystem. For centuries London has been a financial powerhouse where technology and talent converge to create a uniquely strong and dynamic ecosystem. Its strengths have stood out over the past five years (since 2019), with more than $37.8bn having been invested into London's fintech companies, behind only San Francisco - making London the FinTech capital of Europe. We brought a trade delegation the other way last week for Singapore FinTech Festival with London businesses looking for investment, partnerships and to set up in SIngapore. This is one of the fast growing sectors outlined in the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan ‘s Growth Plan. "Dedicated to fintechs" 🙏 That quote in that standee sums it all up :) The support for fintech is amazing here in Singapore. In this short weekend trip, I was able to go to four (!) finance community events held by diff associations. They recognize leaders in the field and even friends of fintech - agencies that allow them to thrive like branding, risk / compliance, coworking spaces. Best of all, there's an event space in 80RR Fintech Hub SG dedicated for fintechs big or small alike. How huge is that for startups? The Digital Assets Association had the privilege of hosting a digital assets roundtable with a U.S. Senate staff delegation from the Senate Banking and Judiciary Committees here in Singapore earlier today, moderated by DAA Co-chair Danny Chong, CFtP, at 80RR Fintech Hub SG. This engagement underscores our continued commitment to International Regulatory Advocacy on digital assets regulation. Earlier this year, we also hosted a bipartisan U.S. Congressional delegation (CODEL) led by the Chair of the House Financial Services Committee (HFSC), Rep. Patrick McHenry, demonstrating our dedication to fostering cross-border regulatory understanding and collaboration.

In the world of digital payments, the prevalence of fraud schemes is on the rise. To address these challenges, ComplyAdvantage and Singapore FinTech Association (SFA) hosted a seminar at 80RR Fintech Hub SG, focusing on current fraud trends and strategies for detecting these risks on 18 September, 2024. 🌐   The session highlighted that Fraud can be divided into two different frameworks: one aimed at preventing clients from falling for scams and the other focusing on thwarting scammers from exploiting digital platforms. Also shared were the current fraud prevention measures in social media. The approach to preventing often relies on reporting fraudulent accounts in hopes for actions to be taken, which can be inadequate. Moreover, private messaging platforms may also be rife with scam risks, since there is a vast ecosystem where scammers operate not just locally but across regions.
