Ensuring dignity and comfort in the final stage of life is no small feat — it’s a team effort. At Alexandra Hospital, the Compassionate Discharge programme bridges the gap for terminally ill patients who wish to spend their final days at home. It is supported by our nurses from Alex Nursing Integration of Care (AlexNIC), who work hand-in-hand to ensure a smooth transition to home-based care while offering compassionate support to patients and their families. Fifty individuals from Alexandra Hospital bared their souls in a newly launched book to show that behind their healthcare uniforms or clinical outcomes, humanity is at the heart of their noble profession. As we undergo redevelopment, Alexandra Hospital remains committed in preserving our natural ecosystem and heritage 🌳 At our recent “Taking Root, Growing Together with Alexandra Hospital” event, we celebrated the support and collaborative efforts we have with our partners, including Adviser to Tanjong Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations (Queenstown) Mr Eric Chua, National Parks Board and Nature Society Singapore, and many others. #DidYouKnow: An estimated 15% of the elderly population in Singapore suffer from dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing, which reduces their quality of life. Since September 2021, our Alexandra Hospital Speech Therapists have embarked on “Smaller Bites to Swallow Right” – an initiative to help individuals with dysphagia continue to enjoy hawker fare. They have since trained about 30 hawkers from Alexandra Village Food Centre and ABC Brickworks Food Centre. They have also teamed up with students from ITE College West School of Hospitality (Culinary Arts) to launch ‘My Grandma’s Dinner’ – a recipe e-book to help caregivers and people with dysphagia enjoy local cuisine with modified textures in the comfort of their own home. ✨ This Deepavali, we’re bringing the warmth and flavours of home to Alexandra Hospital! Our kitchen team, led by the talented Chef Dinesh, has prepared a special festive meal for our patients, complete with salmon tikka, khumb palak and handmade roti crafted from wholesome millet. This hearty, homemade meal is more than just a feast; it’s a source of comfort and connection for our patients who are unable to be home with their families for celebrations. Our chefs hope through the food they prepared, it can lift spirits and remind everyone of the joys of tradition and togetherness 🌟 Wishing everyone a warm and joyful Deepavali from the heart of Alexandra Hospital 🪔✨
