Pek, 74, enrolled into Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital’s Peritoneal Dialysis Home Support Programme in February 2023, and is coping well today in spite of her condition. A cheerful and independent person, she became so confident that she even conducts her own dialysis exchanges while helping out at her sister’s store at a shopping mall! “I have done peritoneal dialysis on my own for almost two years now. Since joining in 2021, she’s trained numerous patients and led a train-the-trainer initiative to empower staff across language groups. “The shift towards PD brings about a two-prong benefit not only to our patients, but to our staff too. They can pick up an additional skillset besides being trained in haemodialysis.” AMK – THKH is also the first community hospital to offer PD training directly to patients.
