Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains the leading cause of liver cancer deaths in APAC. Early detection is critical, yet many patients continue to face: ❌ Limited public awareness, leading to missed opportunities for early detection ❌ Suboptimal surveillance, preventing timely diagnosis and intervention ❌ Financial barriers, making access to screening and treatment unaffordable for many Building on insights from the 2024 HCC APAC Policy Forum, we are now working on a new HCC policy paper in collaboration with government officials, clinicians, and patient advocates. This paper will outline country-specific policy recommendations to strengthen surveillance, early detection, and access to care - and we look forward to sharing it soon. 📢 Together, we can drive real change for liver cancer patients across APAC. Liver cancer is one of the most pressing public health challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) being the most common type. Many cases of HCC are driven by chronic hepatitis B and C infections, which remain widespread but preventable and treatable. On World Cancer Day, the APAC Liver Disease Alliance urges stronger action on prevention, early detection, and treatment of liver diseases to reduce the burden of HCC. Let’s work together to close the care gap 💪 The time to act is now. #WorldCancerDay #LiverCancer #HCC #Hepatitis

In APAC, every hour, 95 lives are lost to hepatitis-related complications, including hepatocellular carcinoma, the second deadliest cancer in the region. At the APAC Liver Disease Alliance, we believe that collaboration is the key to change. By working with policymakers, clinicians, patient advocates, NGOs, and industry leaders, we aim to: ✅ Strengthen surveillance systems to identify at-risk populations. ✅ Ensure equitable access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. ✅ Promote policy reforms that drive liver disease elimination efforts. Together, we can transform lives and achieve the WHO target of eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030 in the Asia Pacific. 💡 Follow our journey and join us in making a difference. ➡️ Visit our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/dtX_fi9H ➡️ Reach out to us at info@apacliverdiseasealliance.org or roberta.sarno@dhealth.consulting #HepatitisElimination #LiverHealth #APACHealthcare #HepatocellularCarcinoma Benedetta Nirta Will Brown Jade Chakowa Kandyce Ong Bethany Holt Chris Munoz Susanna TAN Priyank Dubey Nicole Underwood Varun Veigas Karan Kampani Devmanyu Singh John Ward Lindsey Hiebert Francesca Da Ros Giacomo Donnini Global Liver Institute Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination The Hepatitis Fund International Liver Cancer Movement Achim Kautz Raquel Peck 🇬🇧🇧🇷 Diane Langenbacher, PhD

Next week, we’re kicking off the year with the APAC Liver Disease Alliance's first members meeting of 2025. It’s an exciting moment to come together and set the stage for this year's projects. Here’s a preview of what’s on our 2025 plan: 1️⃣ Launching an HCC surveillance and management policy memo, co-authored with government leaders, clinicians, and patient advocates. 2️⃣ Hosting in-country policy roundtables on hepatitis and HCC to drive meaningful action over the next 24 months with policymakers. 3️⃣ Introducing new initiatives on MASLD, MASH, and fibrosis to expand our impact. Together, let’s create actionable solutions for better liver health in APAC. 💪 💌 Do you want to be part of our Alliance? 📃 Our Summit Report is Online! 🌏 Our inaugural APAC Liver Disease Alliance Summit, held in Bangkok on October 1, 2024, took bold steps toward eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030 in APAC. It brought together health ministries and policymakers from the region, alongside global philanthropic funders, international organizations, clinicians, academics, and patient advocates. The Summit’s post-event report is now available and highlights 3 key actions: 1️⃣ National governments should integrate hepatitis programs into universal health coverage (UHC) systems funded by national payors, and include hepatitis testing and treatment as part of routine healthcare to ensure comprehensive patient coverage and access. 2️⃣ Policymakers should demonstrate strong political will by investing in hepatitis elimination efforts and building multi-stakeholder partnerships. This includes securing early buy-in from decision-makers, adopting effective strategies, and sharing best practices among allies. 3️⃣ Community representatives should share patient stories to highlight the impact of hepatitis and drive engagement from industry representatives, policymakers, and technical advisors. Meanwhile, stakeholders should leverage data to emphasize the urgency, improve policy decisions, and foster collaboration. 📖 Read the full post-event report and watch the recording on our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dY3-BXwZ 🙏 Thank you to all the Summit participants for joining our event and sharing invaluable insights, experiences, and expertise. Your contributions are essential to advancing our shared goal of hepatitis elimination by 2030. 🤝 If you want to join future events with the APAC Liver Disease Alliance or are interested in collaborating with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@apacliverdiseasealliance.org and roberta.sarno@dhealth.consulting.
