This story highlights one of the less recognised and appreciated benefits that gas can have for the energy systems of Asia, particularly those of emerging economies. Liquefied petroleum gas - a by-product from processing of natural gas and refining of crude oil - can serve as an affordable cooking fuel for communities that are still using traditional energy sources such as coal, wood and animal dung. According to the World Health Organization, around 2.1 billion people worldwide -- about a third of the global population -- cook using open fires or inefficient stoves fueled by kerosene; biomass such as wood, animal dung and crop waste; and coal, which generates harmful household air pollution.
Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association
Oil and Gas
The voice of the gas industry in Asia. Supporting reliable, lower-carbon energy for Asia’s future.
About us
ANGEA is the voice of the gas industry in Asia, with a membership that spans the full global value chain: from production, to transport, infrastructure, manufacturing, end users, and others. Our purpose is to work constructively with governments, society and industry throughout Asia, to build effective and integrated energy policies that meet each country’s climate objectives while promoting national and regional economic sustainable growth. This includes the ability of nations to access natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuels that provide energy security and which will support Asia’s transition away from high-emitting coal.

This is a typically informative piece of analysis about the global energy landscape and the state of the energy transition by Daniel Yergin. As the article notes, the complexity of balancing energy security and decarbonisation aspirations is ever-growing in tandem with strongly rising energy demand (particularly from emerging economies). It is clear that natural gas will have a critical role to play, as an alternative to coal that produces far fewer emissions in power generation. (Note: this is a long article, running out to about 5000 words. But it's well worth reading!). #energysecurity #energytransition #naturalgas

ANGEA CEO Paul Everingham is enjoying the opportunity to be part of EIC (Energy Industries Council) Connect Energy Borneo 2025 in Kuching. A very well attended event with very relevant conversations about the energy transition and the future of energy systems across Asia.
"They should have put us in the ballroom" This hugely successful breakout panel session at EIC Connect - Borneo Energy 2025 organised by EIC (Energy Industries Council) was fuller than full house. Am proud to be given the opportunity to entertain, ooops! sorry, to moderate this important panel discussing "Key Drivers And Strategic Insights For Gas Development In Borneo" Humbled to sit alongside esteemed panelists such as: > Anuar Ismail, Head of IHM at MPM, PETRONAS > Choong Yen Li, GM Sarawak Gas at Shell > Paul Everingham , CEO of Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association As both transitional and destination fuel in the energy transition journey, natural gas play pivotal role in balancing energy trilemma and driving socio-economic development in East Malaysia. The panel discussed strategies to ensure sustainable supply of indigenous natural gas in this region and how to balance between domestic needs and LNG exports. By the way, the panel was also the first piece of news coming out of the conference. Check out the link -> https://lnkd.in/gUaQnWRc

Great to see our member company ExxonMobil making a significant investment in Australia's energy security, in partnership with Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) and fellow ANGEA member Woodside Energy. Gas has a massive role to play in Australia's energy transition and there is a strong need for more supply on the country's east coast. Continuing to unlock new fields and expand existing ones will help meet Australian gas needs and also provide LNG to support decarbonisation of economies in Asia. #naturalgas #energytransition #energysecurity

Many thanks to the The Business Times for including our commentary on the outlook for Singapore as an energy hub. The full story is available at: https://bt.sg/g/6Jps Singapore will continue to be a key link in global and regional supply for both oil and gas. With increasing volumes of US gas likely headed to Asia in the years (and decades ahead), Singapore's opportunity as an LNG hub could grow.
