There was no shortage of good vibes and bright smiles during the awardee presentation for the Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS) Joint Research Grant 🥳 Last 14 November, four early-career researchers were selected to showcase their independent research at the A*STAR Skin Research Labs (A*STAR SRL): ⭐️ Ning Li, Senior Scientist I at the A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs - ID Labs ⭐️ Lim Ying Shiang, Scientist at A*STAR SRL ⭐️ Immanuel Kwok, Scientist at the A*STAR Singapore Immunology Network ⭐️ Sho Hanakawa, Scientist at A*STAR SRL Prof Sze-Wee TAN, Assistant Chief Executive of A*STAR’s Biomedical Research Council, graced the event as the guest of honour. He joined SRIS Executive Director Prof Rachel Watson in congratulating the SRIS Joint Research Grant awardees, who received over S$240,000 each to support their work. The SRIS Joint Research Grant was established to bolster interdisciplinary skin research and innovation with the goal of improving skin health and reducing the burden of skin disease for Asian populations and globally. Loo Xinyi Anna, Researcher, A*STAR ID Labs, attended the Asia-Pacific Congress of Medical Virology (APCMV), a prestigious triennial international conference. The event fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange on diagnostic, public health, #research, and clinical #virology, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region’s response to emerging viral infections, including COVID-19.   Anna was awarded the APCMV 2024 Young Investigator Award, which supports early-career researchers in advancing their scientific journeys. The 2nd A*STAR IDL – Institute Pasteur Joint Forum (12-13 Nov) concluded successfully this week, emphasising the importance of cross-regional collaboration in combating tropical infectious diseases and strengthening pandemic preparedness. Speakers from Institut Pasteur and Asia-Pacific member institutes from the Pasteur Network highlighted breakthrough research on vector-borne infections, antimicrobial resistance, and respiratory diseases. Their insights sparked engaging discussions, fostering new avenues for collaboration to address urgent public health challenges. It is inspiring to see the shared momentum driving innovation and amplifying impact on global health as our collaborative network continues to grow. A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs - ID Labs and Institut Pasteur formalised their collaboration and joint efforts to become key players in the Asia-Pacific region in the combat against infectious diseases with a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Key initiatives under the MoU include:  • Launch of joint calls for research projects focusing on vector-borne diseases, antimicrobial resistance and respiratory diseases, and collaborative applications for competitive grant fundings • Developing educational programs, including mobility schemes and training in innovation and technology, as well as organisation of symposiums and workshops Her Excellency Ms. Minh-di Tang, Ambassador of France to Singapore, graced the event with her presence and reaffirmed France's commitment to strengthening research and innovation partnerships with Singapore. Building the Asia-Pacific community to safeguard global health. Experts and leaders gathered at the 3rd Asia-Pacific Infectious Disease Shield (APIS) Forum hosted by Dr Choong-Min Ryu, Director of APIS / Infectious Diseases Research Centre - Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) to discuss collective strategies for pandemic preparedness and response, with the emphasis on addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and vector-borne diseases. Speaking at the forum, A*STAR IDL ED, Prof Lisa F.P. Ng shared insights on the immunity of arboviral infections adding valuable depth to the topic. 🌍 In a future where climate change increasingly impacts health, strengthening collaborative efforts to address emerging public health challenges is essential. By leveraging advancements in AI, data-driven initiatives, and next-generation diagnostics, we can better anticipate and respond to these evolving threats. We just wrapped up an exciting afternoon of the PREPARE BSL-3 Users Workshop! 😊   Prof. Linfa Wang, Executive Director of Programme for Research in Epidemic Preparedness and REsponse (PREPARE), and Prof. Lisa F.P. Ng, Executive Director of A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs - ID Labs (A*STAR IDL) opened the workshop with empowering messages on ownership, collectively growing together from lessons arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, sharpening our readiness and strengthening our ability to respond to future challenges as a team.    During the workshop, best practices were discussed and key user issues tackled during the group exercises. Through open dialogues, everyone identified actionable steps that we could take on together.    A BIG thank you to our PREPARE Community for being part of today’s exciting workshop towards outcomes of a resilient BSL-3 community!
