Last week, Jonathan Wong, one of the directors in our corporate team, together with Deloitte made a presentation to 余杭区工商联, a business association in Hangzhou / Zhejiang, on how Singapore can help Chinese businesses internationalise and expand overseas. In summary, Chinese businesses may leverage on Singapore’s: (a) open and well-connected economy to go global, tap into the city-state’s extensive network of trade agreements to enter into and/or participate in South-East Asia’s emerging markets as well as China’s “One-Belt One-Road” Initiative; (b) tax regime to become tax efficient and enhance their competitiveness; and (c) legal system as well as corporate legal structures to engage in and manage the risks of their offshore ventures.
