Some great conversations sharing the stage at Beyond Activ with Selina Bridge (GAICD) and Matthijs Wilhelmus. Top line summary: - Pilates is booming. - As an genre "Fitness Pilates" is contributing substantially to that growth whilst traditional/clinical pilates still absolutely has it's place in the market. -Pilates dominated the industry this year, hitting pole position for bookings globally (Class Pass Data). Given the boom, we can expect more reformer pilates offerings entering the market over the next 12-24 months. STRONG Pilates -Expansion from franchise sales coming from high-performing locations; almost $15k weekly average revenue per studio at end of Nov 2024. Little-to-no franchise marketing. Honesty & transparency is key in today's market. -Innovation is important in a growing segment. STRONG to launch reverse spring system (100lb+ deadlift, press, row, squat) in January 2025, and the STRONG instructor app to improve in-studio experience and streamline B2C sales between instructor and client. -STRONG doubling down on client wants/needs in order to run with a membership based model. This means focusing on not only pilates, but progressive overload and physical adaptions in clients (working anaerobically, resting, lifting heavier, improving week to week) and zone training for cardio to improve heart health, endurance and aerobic threshold. At this point, it is just expected that Ross and team over deliver at their events.  There is no denying it, they just get better and better.  Sydney is a long way from DC - but it was worth the journey. The Asia-Pacific edition was the third Beyond Activ I attended this year.  During a time when most events recycle panels, discussion topics and speakers - Beyond Activ brings a regional flavor to its events. I met more new people and made more new connections at this event than any other event prior in 2024. 🔑 Here are my key takeaways from my 48 hours in Sydney: ➡️ Strategy in our industry is regional, not global.  What works in the United States does not mean it will work in Australia (and visa versa) ➡️ The Gold Cost of Australia is an incredible incubator of fitness and wellness concepts. ➡️ The closest US State to Australia is Texas.  Australia has a GDP $1.72 trillion with a population of 26.64 million compared to Texas which has a GDP of $2.4 trillion and a population of 30.5 million.  However, Australia trumps Texas in the number of gym locations - 7,589 vs 3,285! ➡️ Pilates is closed to being the national modality of fitness in Australia.  In the last 5 years, pilates searches has increased by 49.5% in the country.  In the last year, pilates has grown by nearly 150% with over 1.1 million aged over 15 participating in pilates. 🌶️ I have never had speaking engagement or panel I participated in described as “spicy” but when you are with high energy rockstars who are passionate about what we do - conversations take interesting turns.  Who knew that optimizing member journeys could get so heated. 🔥 🍳 The team at Sahha brought together some incredible thought leaders for an early breakfast to kick-off Day 2.  Small, intimate gatherings have always led to high value returns - this one did not disappoint. 🏃 Running along the Sydney harbor and parks has got to be one of the most gorgeous city running paths on the planet. 🎙️ Recorded an episode of LIFTS via an iPad and an iPhone with Matthew Januszek dialing in from Newport Beach.  Had some excellent insights from Aleksander Dahlberg, Aaron Verasammy, and Emmett Williams on the event and the Australian market.  More importantly, for once, I had better weather than Matthew. 😎 It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and meet new people.  I couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up the 2024 conference year. ✌️ #beyondactiv #australia #fitness #wellness #conference #spicy #pilates #digital #ai #sahha #lifts #podcast #running
