With mandatory ESG disclosures for listed companies starting in FY2025, any startup aiming for new investments and corporate contracts will need to show they are taking actions to level up their own sustainability behaviours. During last Friday's ACE.SG (Action Community for Entrepreneurship) x SGTech Founder's Friday, we explored how corporate and venture investors view sustainability performance differently—and what it means for you as a start-up founder. 💡 3 stark business truths were shared: • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: If your business struggles with commercial viability, it’s a sign of weak value creation—sometimes, the best move is to pivot or exit. • 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: Success lies in finding the right niche where your start-up can create value that meets market needs. • 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: With strong value creation and commercial viability, ESG performance and disclosures become essential to remain in corporate value chains and gain an edge with venture investors.
