The care conduits of our community, our Friends of CGH inspire us with their unwavering commitment to bring joy to patients and support them on their recovery journeys. Last month, over 100 of our Friends joined us for a fun-filled Volunteers’ Appreciation Day, complete with an energetic Zumba session and a vibrant performance by local choir group, Sing Sing Sing. Caricature artists were also on hand to design delightful personalised keepsakes for our volunteers, spreading smiles all around. A heartfelt highlight was the awards ceremony, where we honoured our long-standing volunteers and corporate partners, including Tzu Chi Foundation and The Esplanade Co Ltd, for their steadfast support and outstanding contributions to our wider CGH community. To all our Friends of CGH, thank you for your selfless dedication and compassion. Your efforts embody the spirit of care that defines our Caring General Hospital, and make a profound difference in the lives of our patients and care team. 💗 Also wishing our Friends of CGH and all volunteers a Happy International Volunteers Day! #CGHCares #CaringGeneralHospital #ChangiGeneralHospital #YourTrustedCarePartner #FriendsofCGH #CGHVolunteers #FriendsofCGHVolunteers #VolunteersAppreciationDay2024 #SupportingYouToBetterHealth

We are proud of our five CGH colleagues who received the Public Spiritedness Award from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), for their outstanding efforts in safeguarding and preventing the misappropriation of hospital property. Patient Service Associate Executives (PSAs) Nur Zahira Binte Zahid and Siti Rawiah Binte Mohd Rashid, together with Housekeeper Ani Bte Aboh, had noticed a person behaving suspiciously, who appeared to be in possession of items belonging to CGH and immediately alerted the security team. Responding swiftly, Patient Relations Officers (PROs) Hamzah Bin Mohd Juhari and Thomas Hoe Meng Hock recovered these items and turned the individual over to the SPF. Congratulations to Assoc Prof Augustine Tee, who will be appointed Pro-Tem Chairman, Medical Board of Eastern General Hospital (EGH) from 1 January 2025. Assoc Prof Tee is currently Chairman, Division of Medicine at CGH and played a key role in enhancing patient safety and leading his teams during the COVID-19 pandemic. Assoc Prof Tee has been instrumental in shaping the development of Eastern General Hospital as the Hospital Clinical Services Lead, and we wish him success in his new appointment.
We are excited to announce two key #leadership appointments at Eastern General Hospital (EGH), SingHealth’s newest general hospital in the making! Associate Professor Wee-Hoe GAN will assume the role of Pro-Tem Chief Executive Officer, while Associate Professor Augustine Tee will take on the position of Pro-Tem Chairman, Medical Board. Both appointments are set to take effect from 1 January 2025. These strategic appointments come at a crucial juncture as EGH prepares to deliver clinical services virtually from 2026, well ahead of the completion of the physical hospital around 2029 to 2030. The EGH Campus, which will encompass both EGH and Eastern Community Hospital, is poised to revolutionise healthcare delivery in the Eastern region of Singapore. With a capacity of 1,400 acute and community hospital beds, the Campus will pioneer a 'phygital' approach, seamlessly integrating physical and digital solutions to provide personalised care. Prof Gan and Prof Tee are set to spearhead EGH's mission to become a centre of excellence in #clinical and #communitycare, #research, #innovation, and #education. Together with Professor Chien Earn Lee, Deputy Group CEO (Regional Health System), #SingHealth, who will continue as the Chairman of the EGH Campus Hospital Planning Committee, and the EGH and SingHealth Community Hospitals teams, they will shape the future of #healthcare in Singapore as the EGH Campus aims to set new standards in #patientcare and #medicaladvancement. This announcement marks a pivotal moment in SingHealth's ongoing efforts to enhance and innovate ways in which care is delivered, with EGH positioned to play a transformative role in meeting the evolving health needs of the community. Did you know that lymphoedema can lead to lifelong challenges and poorer quality of life if left untreated? The condition, which is characterised by limb swelling, affects 1 in 1,000 people worldwide. Changi General Hospital (CGH)’s integrated, multi-disciplinary Lymphoedema Service team has introduced a formal screening programme to enable early diagnosis and intervention for patients with or at risk of lymphoedema, that is complemented by personalised treatment plans for holistic care and improved patient outcomes. The programme includes 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 (𝗜𝗖𝗚𝗟), a highly sensitive and quick-to-administer imaging technology, that facilitates quick and accurate detection and monitoring of the condition even in its early stages. This proactive approach enables the care team to make timely adjustments to care plans that may include a combination of complete decongestive therapy or surgical treatment options, depending on the patient’s condition. CGH also introduced the 𝗟𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 (𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗧), a surgical treatment option for individuals with moderate to severe lymphoedema, that involves mapping out healthy lymphatic vessels with ICGL, then harvesting and transplanting the healthy lymphatic tissue to the affected area. Mr Lim, a 41-year-old cancer survivor who developed lymphoedema and benefited from this personalised care approach, shared, "I've accepted the fact that I'm a cancer survivor and I have lymphoedema, possibly for the rest of my life. But I'm adapting to my 'new normal' and I'm grateful to the CGH care team for identifying and treating my post-cancer lymphoedema so that I can still work and live my live to the fullest."
