Happy to celebrate the dedication and compassion of our Neighbours for Active Living programme volunteers in supporting the care of more than 14,000 seniors in our community over the past 13 years with South East Community Development Council (CDC) last weekend. Graced by Mr Fahmi Aliman, Mayor of South East District, the event recognised the vital role our volunteers play in working with our CGH well-being coordinators and partners to support seniors with complex health and social needs, strengthen community bonds, and enhance their quality of life. We also unveiled our expanded volunteer befriending programme, ‘𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 @ 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁’, which builds on the success of the Friend-A-Senior programme in training over 900 volunteers over the past decade. Heartfelt congratulations to Clinical Professor Tay Yong Kwang, Senior Consultant, Department of Dermatology, on his induction into the Duke-NUS Hall of Master Academic Clinicians!   Clin Prof Tay’s 35-year career spans extensive clinical and research work in dermatology, alongside education and mentorship. Recognised for his expertise in dermatologic laser surgery and paediatric dermatology, the former Head of CGH’s Dermatology Department continues to lend his expert insights at national committees and professional bodies influencing dermatological practice and standards.   A prolific researcher, Clin Prof Tay has penned more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, and was recognised as one of the World’s Top 2% Most Cited Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2024 – a testament to his influence and unwavering commitment to advancing the field of dermatology.   Through his tenures as Clinical Professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Medical School, and leadership in residency programmes, Clin Prof Tay has nurtured generations of healthcare professionals. His dedication to teaching and mentorship has earned him numerous accolades, including the Special Commendation Award for dedicated contribution to SingHealth Residency and the Sage Award at the CGH Educator Award in 2023 and the Distinguished Mentor Award at the 2021 SingHealth Excellence Awards.   “Academic pursuits and clinical work are intertwined. 🌍 Enthused to return to share best practices and discuss innovations and challenges in geriatric care with healthcare leaders and fellow practitioners at the 5th Thailand Elderly Health Service Forum last month. This is the second year that CGH clinicians have been invited to share insights on strengthening geriatric care at the forum. CGH Geriatric Medicine Head and Senior Consultant Clin Asst Prof Goh Kiat Sern, Palliative Medicine Associate Consultant Dr Jane Ong, Senior Nurse Clinician and Advanced Practice Nurse Dr Li Fuyin, and Principal Medical Social Worker Ms Anuradha Kaliappan led engaging discussions on active ageing, technology in geriatric care, palliative care, and policies promoting healthy ageing societies, sharing on Singapore’s advancements in care for seniors and our shared vision of improving the quality of life for older adults in the region. This forum is part of CGH’s efforts to enhance global healthcare learning through trainings under The Seamless Care for Ageing Population Programme – a collaboration between the SingHealth International Collaboration Office and the Department of Medical Services of the Thailand Ministry of Public Health.
