Today, I went back to 2C2P's first independent office in Singapore at the famous Block 71. Before this, we were using the meeting room of 2C2P's first investor as our office. Kimberley Ong Joppie Tjoa Douglas Abrams Expara Instead of calling Grab, I asked my colleague, who has been with the company for over ten years, to take me there in his car as he did in the past because I wanted to experience the same experience I had over a decade ago. I still vividly remember my nervous feelings when I first went to the office. Today, I felt at home. Kok Tiong Neo Block 71 was quiet and peaceful at 8:15 in the morning. Yet, I know that within hours it would become a busy office. The stairs of Block 71 are still in rough shape, and the reliable yet slow and noisy industrial lift still has a pole in the middle to prevent people from bringing in large items. The view from 2C2P's old unit (5th floor, 22-23) remains the same. As I snapped the view under the early morning sunlight of Singapore with my phone, old memories went through my mind. This place is where everything started. This office was where I invested all my hopes and dreams. The desk in this office was once my bed to save hotel bills. I first shook hands with the investors who invested in the business in the very meeting room in this office. Dmitry Levit Ryu Muramatsu My colleague offered to take a picture of me, and I hesitantly obliged. The tired-looking man in the picture is no longer young and energetic. The fast-paced fintech industry may have consumed some of his soul and energy over the past two decades. As I sat in our current penthouse office in Raffles Place, I looked at the bill we spent at a fancy hotel restaurant for the Chinese New Year dinner in slight disbelief. A bottle of wine costs the same amount as a one-night hotel stay near Block 71. Ten years ago, I would have saved that money by sleeping in the meeting room by connecting three chairs. Times have changed, I understand. But by sharing this, I hope to remind myself and my team of the sheer hard work, drive, and belief that brought us this far and to always keep that spirit alive as we soldier on. It's been nearly 5 years since I embarked on my journey in Southeast Asia! My aim was to assist European start-ups in establishing companies in Singapore and expanding into the SEA market. This led to the creation of the Lotus League Foundation. Together with the Polish government, embassies, and universities, we have undertaken numerous exciting projects to promote this region. In addition, I joined Expara as a Business Development Director, building global acceleration programs that included support for Polish start-ups. As someone who has always been bullish on SEA and a strong advocate for the region throughout my career, I have finally taken the leap to start a tech company in Singapore, FrostyWhale. It was a great pleasure to be a guest of Maciej Szczerba and share my hands-on experiences. I have never stated that this region is easy, but I firmly believe that if you can learn to navigate it effectively, the opportunities are tremendous. Thank you once again, Maciej, for the invitation, and I am always open to engaging in conversations with European entrepreneurs who are interested in learning more about SEA!
