Set up in 2002, EYE Investment Club is Singapore Management University (SMU)’s first and largest investment interactive club. We are proud to have a diverse community of individuals from varying academic backgrounds and levels of experience. We strive to empower all eager learners by growing a community that facilitates the exchange of ideas and knowledge between students, faculty, alumni, and industry professionals.   • We had the honor of hosting Women in Finance 2025: Navigating Leadership in Finance last Friday, an event that featured four accomplished female leaders in the industry in partnership with 100 Women In Finance. During the fireside chat and Q&A, our speakers shared personal reflections on leadership, overcoming challenges, and seizing growth opportunities in finance. Their insights sparked meaningful conversations and inspired us all. Our members also had the opportunity to connect with them during an interactive networking session, making it an afternoon filled with learning and inspiration. A huge thank you to Amanda Yap, Carolyn Tham, Jessica Huang Pouleur, and Kerrine Koh, CFA, CAIA for sharing their stories, Damayanti Shahani for introducing 100 Women In Finance, and to everyone who joined us for this special session!

  • Last week, EYE Investment Club was honoured to be a part of Singapore Financial Conference, a flagship event organised by NTU Investment Interactive Club and in collaboration with NUS Investment Society. This highly anticipated conference attracted over 600 signups, featuring distinguished professionals from HSBC, Standard Chartered, Maybank Investment Banking Group, BlackRock, Bloomberg, SeaTown Holdings International and more. Attendees gained valuable insights into personal investing, the global and local financial landscapes and career opportunities in finance, equipping them with the knowledge to navigate the ever-changing finance industry. We extend our deepest gratitude to the esteemed speakers, partnering investment clubs, and participants for contributing to the success of this inter-varsity event, allowing us to lead student-led financial discussions to new heights.

  • We recently hosted #EYEHANGOUT4 – Breaking into Investment Banking.   We had the pleasure of welcoming Emmanuel Tng and Shawn Lim from Standard Chartered Bank, as well as Lincoln Zewei Chen from DNB Markets, as our distinguished guest speakers. This session provided our members with a comprehensive look into the world of investment banking.   Emmanuel and Shawn shared their experiences working on mergers and acquisitions, offering valuable insights into what goes on behind the scenes of a deal. They also provided an inside perspective on life as investment bankers and the challenges and rewards of working in the industry.   • AIIP Hong Kong Day 3 We concluded our corporate engagements with visits to DBS Bank and ARK Wealth Management-NOAH. At DBS Bank, we explored their innovative design-thinking-inspired workspace and gained insights into their company culture, hiring processes, and market outlooks. During the visit, the research team at DBS also provided a comprehensive overview of sector trends, highlighting several industries with growth potentials. They also shared insights on the Chinese market outlook, delving into key drivers of growth and potential challenges in the coming years. Our analysts engaged in a rotational networking session, connecting personally with DBS representatives to discuss these thoughts in greater depth and better understand the bank's approach to navigating global markets. At ARK Wealth Management-NOAH*, we explored their extensive expertise in wealth management, their strategic focus on Hong Kong as a financial hub, and the specialized services they provide to high-net-worth individuals.   • AIIP Hong Kong Day 2 Our second day began with a return visit to Franklin Templeton, where we had the privilege of being hosted by Nicholas Chui, CFA, CA and David Li. Nicholas shared valuable insights into asset management, while David delivered a technical sharing session on execution algorithms and benchmarks. In the afternoon, we visited Blackstone for a sharing session with a distinguished panel, who spoke about their career journeys and experiences working at one of the world’s leading alternative asset management firms. This was followed by a networking segment, allowing our analysts to connect further with the team. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nicholas Chui, CFA, CA, David Li, and Blackstone for their warm hospitality and insightful discussions.

  • AIIP Hong Kong Day 1 EYE Investment Club kicked off our 2024 AIIP Hong Kong trip with an inspiring visit to Balyasny Asset Management L.P. We were privileged to hear from Terry and Yilei(Mia) XU, who shared valuable insights on their career journeys, reflecting on how their university experiences shaped their paths and offering invaluable tips to gain a competitive edge in the industry. Our analysts engaged in a lively Q&A, delving into the technical aspects of quant roles and the work culture at B.A.M.. Next, we reconnected with the HKU Trading Group, where their leadership once again welcomed us warmly. Both clubs exchanged valuable insights through research presentations - HKU Trading Group shared in-depth industry reports, while our EYE analysts showcased their stock pitches. A dynamic networking session followed, strengthening connections between our clubs. This session explored two significant areas shaping the future of the financial landscape: David provided an overview of the fintech industry along with his insights on the major players in Singapore, while Kenneth offered valuable perspectives on the evolving role of ESG and its impact on the finance sector. This year’s symposium featured a comprehensive three-segment series, with the final segment focusing on Private Equity and Venture Capital. For this segment, we were honoured to welcome Kenneth Yeo from Forebright Capital and Jessica Koh from Vertex Ventures as our esteemed guest speakers. They provided insights into career paths and shared their perspectives on the industry. During the fireside chat, our speakers also offered practical advice on how to successfully pursue a career in private equity and venture capital. The segment concluded with a networking session over catered tea, where our members had the chance to interact with the guest speakers and gain additional insights into the industry. They shared valuable insights on a range of topics such as ETFs, Global bond market landscape and what it is like to work in the asset management industry. Following these presentations, we hosted a fireside chat where our distinguished speakers provided valuable advice on how to successfully pursue a career in asset management.   The second segment concluded with a networking session over catered tea, where our members had the opportunity to engage with the guest speakers and gain further insights into the industry.
