Papanui High School was one of the first schools to introduce our new Bodyfurn.Flex chairs, the latest innovation in the Bodyfurn range. Opting for the Forest Green colour, Gaye, Executive Officer at Papanui High School, said, "The Bodyfurn.Flex chairs look amazing. We love the colour and they are so comfortable to sit on. Our students love these new chairs". Furnware worked with Papanui High School to bring their latest project to life - two modern, purpose-built blocks of innovative, inspiring classroom spaces. Designing world-class innovative school furniture for over 65 years.
About us
Furnware was there back in the ‘50’s when education was a little buttoned up. Straight rows, straight backs and eyes front. But things changed and we relished the chance to spend more time in schools, talking to everyone we could about what they needed for better learning. We discovered a lot and learned furniture didn’t always measure up. Nobody had ever done meaningful research into the changing shape and make up of children in New Zealand. So we did it. In 2003 we measured over 20,000 long, short, bulky, bony kids around the country. It completely changed the way we designed and built furniture – because we believed in better learning and proved there was a better way. And that’s what drives us - working hand in hand with schools the world over, finding the best way for children to thrive in the most inspiring learning spaces imaginable. • Spaces that fuel curiosity. • Ignite delight. • Unleash imagination. We work hard to truly connect with the individual aspirations of our schools and then we deliver with quality, timeliness, innovation, reliability and genuine care. Everything we create is designed to stand the test of time, with an eagle eye on the future. Because we take this as personally as you do. Every single person at Furnware aims to help every single child in your classrooms to grow, expand and be their best. To be at the heart of the wonder of learning. We are always on the lookout for excellent talent. If you have what it takes and would like to work for us, please forward your CV to jobs@furnware.co.nz

A stunning learning space brought to life by thoughtful design and meaningful storytelling. The new Upper Primary at St Luke's Anglican School reflects deep connections to the land, the community, and the students themselves. From the beautiful artwork by Jesse and Chern'ee Sutton to the carefully chosen colours and materials, every detail has a purpose. We love seeing how architecture and design can honour student voices, especially with touches like the friendship chair concept, woven into the design with yellow seating as a space for connection. It's always a privilege to see Furnware furniture playing a part in these inspiring environments. A huge shout-out to McLellan Bush Architects for this incredible project! #EducationDesign #LearningSpaces #Furnware #SchoolArchitecture
St Luke's Anglican School Upper Primary internals and the beautiful painting Jesse Sutton and Chern'ee Sutton created which influenced materials, colour palette and landscaping for this building. In the design phase of this building, nearly 2.5 years ago, students gathered with Jesse and Chern’ee in their previous learning spaces to inform the painting now displayed in the Upper Primary Entry Gallery. During these discussions, students reflected on what it means to be connected—to the land, the region, and the school—and what was most important to them. Jesse and Chern’ee have beautifully captured this storytelling in their artwork. One recurring theme in these conversations was the friendship chair—a place to sit when you need someone to simply be with you. The rule is that no one should ever be left alone on the friendship chair. Like Jesse and Chern’ee’s artwork, the yellow ring in the carpet serves as a connector—it links all areas of the building and reflects the sun in the artwork, symbolising the bright future being created for students in this space. The yellow seating throughout the building is a tribute to the friendship chair and the students’ insistence that we include a yellow seat as a place where connections can happen. Confucius (551–479 BC) said, “A seed grows with no sound, but a tree falls with a huge noise. Destruction has noise, but creation is quiet. This is the power of silence. Grow silently” Well, we don’t exactly agree with Confucius… because sometimes collaboration in the creation process gets quite lively, especially in primary school. However, the acoustics are also so good in the space that we hope Confucius would agree we’ve got a great balance here and there will be no destruction to creativity in this learning space. Founder of Mindfull | Breaking down barriers in the classroom with innovative furniture, designed to help kids thrive
Disappointed not to make it down to NZPF in Christchurch last week, but the Furnware team had a great week mixing and mingling with over 1000 delegates from across New Zealand & Australia. The most exciting part for me? We had a few new Mindfull Spaces prototypes on the stand, which by all accounts were well received, as well as some awesome new learning space products from Furnware. Thanks to Marianne Elliott, Kyle Cooke, Tim Curtis and Ian Johnstone for representing our brands with the incredible passion you all show on a daily basis. #education #neurodiversity
