GIC commemorated the 15th anniversary of its India office this week in Mumbai, bringing together its wide network of esteemed partners. Since the 1990s, GIC has been a long-term investor in India. Over these 30 years, it has invested across various asset classes in India, including real estate, infrastructure, private equity, public equities, and fixed income. India continues to be an attractive market for GIC. As the country modernises its economy, expands its digital ecosystem, and invests in large-scale infrastructure projects, GIC is well-positioned to support the country’s long-term ambitions. In fact, over the last five years, GIC has doubled its exposure to India. In an interview with The Economic Times and Business Standard, GIC CEO Lim Chow Kiat and Head of India Office Pankaj Sood shared more about GIC’s long-term commitment to investing in India. Chow Kiat shared that GIC has been investing in India for over 30 years and in the past five years, the fund has doubled its investment in the market. He added that GIC is invested in many of India’s growth sectors, such as healthcare, technology, infrastructure, and real estate. Pankaj added that since GIC established its India office 15 years ago, the on-the-ground staff strength has grown six times. GIC will continue to capture good, long-term opportunities in India, where there is a strong momentum of growth with its favourable demographics, government reforms, and use of technology.
