The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) was officially formed on 1 April 2003 through the merger of Singapore Immigration & Registration (SIR) with the checkpoint operations wing of the Customs & Excise Department (CED). The merger was to enable a more coordinated and quicker response to any security threat or crisis, following the September 11 attacks in the United States. Since its inception, ICA has collaborated extensively with other Home Team agencies, such as the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), to strengthen border security. These partnerships have been crucial in fostering a ‘One Home Team’ approach to national security. Check out the links below to learn about some of their joint efforts and the importance of working together as ‘One Home Team’. Building international partnerships and fostering cross-border collaboration are part of how the Home Team Academy ensures we remain at the forefront of safety and security training and learning! In the spirit of uniting across borders, we are honoured to have welcomed Ms. Leann Pask from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) to Singapore from 16 – 27 September 2024, as part of our on-going FLETC-HTA attachment programme. This exchange is a testament to the strong partnership between our organisations, rooted in our Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in 2016 and renewed in 2022.   During her visit, Ms. Pask, Division Chief of eLearning and Training Analytics, shared her expertise in e-learning platforms, Instructional Systems Design, and evaluation models, aligning perfectly with HTA’s digital transformation journey. We also welcomed her to join in for key HTA events like our annual Training Excellence Award Ceremony and HTA Anniversary Dinner. It was our pleasure to showcase our One Home Team culture and innovative approaches to law enforcement training. Ms. Pask's insights have been invaluable, and we are thrilled she found her time with us enriching!   This programme exemplifies our commitment to international collaboration and continuous improvement in training capabilities. We look forward to more such exchanges in the future! #HomeTeamAcademy #TrainingandLearning #Parternerships #OneHomeTeam

The Ministry of Home Affairs Singapore (MHA) headquarters is currently located at New Phoenix Park. Does this mean that there is a Phoenix Park? Indeed! It was located along Tanglin Road and served as MHA’s old headquarters from 1977 to 2001. MHA then moved to a new complex along Irrawaddy Road, and it was named New Phoenix Park (NPPk) to pay homage to its heritage and its former location. The relocation to NPPk brought MHA, the Singapore Police Force (SPF), and the Internal Security Department (ISD) back in a shared vicinity, reminiscent of their earlier arrangements at Phoenix Park. This facilitates the sharing of resources, fostering greater collaboration and synergy in the operations and initiatives of the Home Team. To wrap up the year after MHA’s inaugural Home Team Day that was launched on 24 February 2024, the Home Team Academy will be sharing snippets of the Home Team’s history and heritage. Stay tuned for more heritage fun facts in the coming weeks! #OneHomeTeam #HomeTeamAcademy #HTHeritage

On 8 October 2024, we celebrated the graduation of 59 graduates from the full-time Bachelor of Public Safety and Security (PSS) programme at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Convocation 2024, held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.   Among the graduates were 27 MHA-sponsored officers from the second cohort of MHA-sponsored graduates from this programme. The other 32 graduates were public-run students from the pioneer cohort* of the PSS degree programme.   Launched in 2020, the Bachelor of PSS programme, developed in collaboration with MHA, equips students with essential knowledge in criminology, crisis management, and psychosocial intervention. The Home Team Academy (HTA) is dedicated to maintaining high standards in content development and programme evaluation, empowering our Home Team officers to keep the safety and security of Singapore.   To date, more than 600 Home Team officers and public-run students from MHA, both full-time and part-time, are enrolled in the degree programme. We look forward to welcoming more graduates in the coming years.   * The inaugural cohort who enrolled in the Bachelor of PSS programme included both MHA-sponsored officers and public-run students. However, the pioneer batch of 23 MHA-sponsored officers graduated in 2023 as they are required to complete the degree programme within 3 years under the sponsorship, while public-run students complete in 4 years.   #HomeTeamAcademy #TrainingandLearning #HTACourses
