National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) announced that from 1 January 2025, the Retirement Age (RA) and Re-employment Age (REA) across its workforce will be increased to 64 and 69 years respectively. This move comes 1½ years ahead of the national schedule and is aligned with its commitment to age-inclusive employment practices. When interviewed by Lian He Zao Bao, IHRP CEO Aslam Sardar, PBM shared that NTUC's proactive approach is a key move in talent management that sends a strong message about Singapore's evolving workforce dynamics. The significance of this move extends far beyond NTUC's immediate workforce - it represents a critical shift in how organisations view human capital and in recognising that experience, expertise, and knowledge are not bound by age limits. In an era of rapid technological transformation and skills evolution, retaining experienced workers becomes a strategic imperative. Older employees bring not just years of experience, but adaptability, wisdom, and a depth of problem-solving skills that holds value for younger talent. Having inclusive and progressive HR policies in place will be critical in maintaining economic resilience and HR professionals must partner closely with business leaders to drive this. This approach can help to address potential labour shortages, maintains workforce productivity, and in turn supports a shared goal of optimising human capital potential for the future of work. ➡️ Learn more about NTUC’s move here: https://lnkd.in/ghTz69Xz 📰 Read at https://lnkd.in/gY6gBcPE #IHRP #NTUC #WorkforceTrends #Retirement #ReEmployment #InclusiveWorkplace

About us
The Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) is the HR professional body, set up by the tripartite partners: the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF). IHRP is the only HR professional body in Singapore authorised to implement the national HR credentials, which is known as the IHRP Certification. IHRP has the goal of setting the HR standards of excellence and enabling human capital development in enterprises. Through the IHRP Certification, IHRP aims to enhance the competencies of HR professionals, as well as create developmental and professional pathways for them. This will professionalise and strengthen the HR profession practice in Singapore, allowing HR professionals to be key enablers in their organisations. Our 15-member board of directors come from diverse backgrounds. The Chairperson is Mrs Deborah Ong, Retired Partner, PwC Singapore. Why IHRP? Against the backdrop of rapid business disruption, it is essential that organisations develop their human capital, so they can be future-ready and thrive amid economic shifts. HR is the enabler that will help organisations rise to meet this challenge. But for it to be successful, HR must itself be future-ready. It must focus on maximising human capital and contribute to business growth. IHRP aims to equip HR professionals and their organisations with progressive and forward-looking people practices to meet this challenge.

Teamwork was the order of the day on 5 December, where Team Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) engaged in a transformative day of cohesion activities designed to enhance our collective effectiveness and interpersonal dynamics. The first hands-on Build It Up activity challenged us to construct a tent while blindfolded, serving as a powerful metaphor for teamwork. This exercise highlighted critical professional skills, including clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, mutual trust, and confidence in our collective capabilities. Our team gained valuable insights into individual working styles and learned how to better recognise and leverage each other's unique strengths. We further deepened our interpersonal understanding through the DISC sharing exercise, which fostered a more nuanced appreciation for individual differences. This activity encouraged greater empathy and acceptance, ultimately promoting a more inclusive and harmonious team environment. Drawing upon an imaginative apocalyptic scenario, the Fallout exercise provoked an energetic discussion about decision-making processes and appropriate escalation strategies. This conversation underscored the importance of clear communication channels and collaborative problem-solving within our team. Throughout these activities, we consistently emphasised the core principles of people and relationship management. We focused on cultivating inclusiveness, applying emotional intelligence, and demonstrating resilience—key attributes that will contribute to a high-performing and supportive team culture. These experiences have reinforced our commitment to continuous personal and professional growth, strengthening our team's cohesion and collective effectiveness for the journey forward. #IHRP #TeamCohesion #PersonalDevelopment

Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) CEO Aslam Sardar, PBM was part of an engaging The Straits Times roundtable on flexible work arrangements (FWAs), together with Faith Li (General Manager, TAFEP Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices), Yuit Ang (President, Association of Small & Medium Enterprises) and Juliana Ong (Director of Culture & Human Capital, Royal Plaza on Scotts), moderated by ST Assistant Business Editor, Joanna Seow. From a strategic HR perspective, FWAs represent a critical evolution in workforce management and transformation that goes far beyond mere accommodation - they are a powerful tool to drive organisational adaptability, job redesign, employee engagement, and talent attraction. The core imperative is to recognise that flexible work is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a nuanced approach that requires thoughtful implementation. Flexible work models can be seen as a strategic business initiative that enables organisations to attract diverse talent, improve employee retention, enhance productivity, and demonstrate organisational agility. HR professionals must lead the charge in designing frameworks that balance organisational needs with employee expectations. This involves creating clear policies that outline different flexibility options aligned with the Tripartite Guidelines on FWA Requests (TG-FWAR) - such as flexi-place (remote work), flexi-time (staggered work hours), and flexi-load (part time/ job-sharing) - while maintaining performance standards. Critically, HR plays a pivotal role in streamlining processes to seek productivity gains and redesigning performance evaluation mechanisms to focus on outcomes. By transparently communicating how performance will be assessed and recognised under flexible arrangements, HR can mitigate employee anxieties about career progression and visibility. As workforce demographics and expectations continue to evolve, HR must view flexible work as a dynamic, ongoing dialogue between employer and employee, continuously refined to meet changing business and personal needs. 📰 Read more at https://lnkd.in/gBTa5pfq #IHRP #TAFEP #TGFWAR #FlexibleWorkArrangements
