We'd like to share the good news with everyone that the Firm was ranked in Band 3 for Litigation, Construction, Corporate Investigations / Anti-Corruption, and Shipping disputes. Some of the feedback that we have received are as follows: "The team is very knowledgeable about the law. They understand the needs of the business and give tailored practical solutions. Our Vi Ming Lok SC continues to be ranked as a Band 2 practitioner for litigation and a Band 4 practitioner for insurance. The Annual CPD Day organised by The Law Society of Singapore is held every year for practitioners to obtain CPD points. This year, one of the topics discussed was the new Law Society Workplace Bullying and Harassment Guidelines. A webinar was held to discuss some of its implications for the legal profession, and we are so proud that our colleague Joanne Ooi Huey Hien was on a panel to discuss the Guidelines and the broader topic of workplace bullying and harassment. The legal fraternity should constantly strive to be a more inclusive and safe place, and with colleagues like Huey Hien, we know that it will. A shout out too to fellow panellists Shobna Chandran, FSIARB and Christine Low. Thank you for having this very important discussion! #lvmlc #harassment #bullying #psychologicalsafety
I am very honoured to have participated in the Annual CPD day in a panel discussion with Christine Low and Shobna Chandran, FSIARB on workplace bullying and harassment. Work should and can be a safe space for growth and development, at the heart of it we are professionals who must treat all others professionally and more. I fully support the zero tolerance approach by The Law Society of Singapore and am very encouraged by the strides to talk about these issues and place it on the centre stage.

At LVM Law Chambers, we often work together with other firms to serve clients. And in the just released decision of the "Maersk Katalin", our Vi Ming Lok SC, Haireez Jufferie, and Ying Xuan Thong worked together with teams from Allen & Gledhill LLP and Helmsman LLC - Advocates & Solicitors and succeeded in obtaining judgment in favour of UOB against Maersk for the sum of US$39,372,300.00 together with interest. The Maersk Katalin is the latest misdelivery High Court decision arising from the collapse of Hin Leong Trading in 2020. An important focus of the judgment was the Court's examination of the defence of causation in the context of misdelivery with a consideration of recent UK case law on the topic - in particular, The Nika and The Sienna. It is the only Singapore High Court decision to-date that has comprehensively considered these developments in a misdelivery claim after a trial. Justice Mohan also considered and unequivocally rejected numerous other defences that the Carrier raised such as the defence of consent, spent BLs and the defence of the alleged lack of good faith. Well done team, and thank you for the fantastic teamwork on this matter Corina Song, Daniel Liang, KarLuis Quek, Ian Teo, Jonathan Tan! #shipping #lvmlc #law #Singapore #billsoflading #tradefinance

Yesterday, our Vi Ming Lok SC, Jonathan Muk, and Qabir Sandhu were privileged to attend an event hosted by Kroll featuring Tom Wright and Angela Barkhouse talking about the 1MDB scandal. The 1MDB scandal is regarded as the world's largest kleptocracy. Upon the fall of the Barisan Nasional government in 2018, Malaysia's former Prime Minister, Najib Razak, was charged with multiple counts of criminal breach of trust, money laundering, and abuse of power. He is presently behind bars, an outcome which was unimaginable just about 10 years ago. The night showed us how critical it was that everyone plays a part in holding power to account. While the criminal trials are going on, what is perhaps less known are the civil trials that are now taking place against Najib, his wife Rosmah, and other entities in Malaysia and across the world. It is civil recovery where perhaps firms like Kroll and ourselves can come in, and play a part in restoring what rightfully belongs to the people of Malaysia. Thanks for the invite - it was a night where we truly enjoyed the stories being told! #corruption #whitecollar #lvmlc #1mdb

Just coming off a marathon 52 day trial for some of our colleagues, our Firm embarked on its long-awaited (some may say delayed) Firm trip to Bali! Barring the occasional serious conversation about work, we did quite many things during the trip! We all attempted to cook Balinese cuisine at a cooking class, some of us sang impromptu, some of us surfed, some of us cafe hopped, some of us watched Manchester United cruise to yet another defeat at home, but it was really quite fun! Thank you to all our colleagues who joined us and made this such a fun trip! Looking forward to the next already! Recently, The Straits Times published an article which covers in fair detail the reasons for why the Appellate Division of three High Court ruled in our client's favour against her uplines in the Ponzi scheme, SureWin4U. The case was argued by our Vi Ming Lok SC, Joseph Lee, Jonathan Muk, Qabir Sandhu, and Clara Lim. Among others, the article highlights the fact that the uplines deleted their correspondence with the masterminds and the uplines' post-collapse behaviour was inexplicable contributed to the eventual finding of the Court of Appeal. In recent times, white collar crimes have surged in Singapore: https://lnkd.in/gSZv_Hy6. At LVM Law Chambers LLC, we are well placed to assist clients to recover the monies which they had paid out to fraudsters and have handled matters on behalf of individuals and corporations which find themselves victims of fraud. We would be more than happy to assist on such matters, should there be one which requires our assistance, especially where they involved civil-related remedies. #scams #litigation #lvmlc
