AlterCOP has wrapped up after two impactful weeks of daily reuse with Muuse. Together, we saved 3,000 disposables from being used — that’s 82kg of waste kept out of landfill! 🚯✨ This milestone also marked our first collaboration with FreshKitchen, showcasing what’s possible when events embrace reusable solutions. Small changes truly lead to big impacts, especially for sustainability. Beyond the waste reduction, we were proud to contribute to the conversation on reuse and sustainability at AlterCOP. Our Singapore Country Director, Caroline Struye, delivered an inspiring talk on “Muuse’s Circular Journey”, sharing how we’re making reuse second nature, eliminating single-use waste, and helping the F&B industry reduce carbon emissions without compromising convenience. She also joined the discussion on “Walking the Talk in the Events Industry,” highlighting how reusables can transform event sustainability. A huge thank you to AlterCOP for bringing energy and inspiration to the panels and talks, and for shining a spotlight on the importance of sustainability. It was an absolute pleasure to discuss carbon footprints, reuse systems, and the exciting vision for the next AlterCOP. What does it take to transition to a circular future? 🌍♻️ Plastic bans are becoming more common worldwide as cities and countries look for ways to reduce waste and protect the environment. But making these bans work isn’t as simple as switching to “eco-friendly” alternatives. Our case study takes a closer look at Hong Kong’s single-use plastics ban, launched on Earth Day 2024, and the lessons it offers for creating real change. With 3.9 billion disposable food containers used each year, Hong Kong had to rethink how it manages waste. The results showed that reusable systems were not only better for the environment but also more cost-effective in the long run. At the same time, the case study highlights why alternatives like biodegradable plastics aren’t always the solution and how supporting businesses and educating consumers make a big difference. At Muuse, we’re proud to be making a real difference in the fight against climate change. So far, we’ve saved over 50 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions! That’s like driving an average car around the Earth five times or planting 800 trees. 🌍🌱 Our reusable packaging system has been shown to produce up to 81% fewer emissions compared to single-use disposables — thanks to our Life Cycle Assessment with Unravel Carbon. And at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) in Singapore, we’ve already saved 1.2 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions since November 2022. With increased uptake, we could achieve savings of up to 21.3 tonnes of CO2 per year — the equivalent of 10 flights from Singapore to Toronto! It’s clear that reusables aren’t just better for the environment, they’re also a practical and impactful solution to reduce emissions and waste. The Garlic Festival showed that delicious food and sustainability go hand in hand! 🌟🧄 With help from everyone who chose reusables, we kept over 4,000 disposable items out of the waste stream. Can we rethink single-use culture in our everyday dining? At Muuse, we believe the answer is yes. We introduced a reusable container program at Our Tampines Hub’s Hawker Centre in Singapore, one of the city’s iconic food spots. Running from November 2022 to October 2023, this initiative offered a real-world test of how circular practices can fit seamlessly into daily life. ♻️ But going circular is about more than just reducing waste. It’s about rethinking consumption habits and engaging communities. Through clean-ups and film screenings, we connected with 3,000 people to raise awareness around disposable waste issues, sparking conversations on the future of sustainable dining. 💬 This project isn’t just about one location; it’s about redefining what’s possible.
