  • The National Arts Council and Singapore Land Authority (SLA) are pleased to announce that the tender for heritage shophouses at 52-56 Kampong Java has been awarded to arts and culture organisation 19SixtyFive Pte Ltd for multi-disciplinary arts sandbox use. The upcoming arts hub will provide arts professionals and budding artists with affordable and accessible spaces for innovation, conversations and collaborations. This includes acoustically treated studios, equipped co-working offices, creative incubation and gallery spaces, as well as dedicated event and performance areas for public experiences. 52-56 Kampong Java is the culmination of our close engagement with #OurSGArts community for an industry-led space for experimentation and creation. We will continue to work with partners to diversify and unlock more arts spaces as part of our efforts to develop Singapore into a #DistinctiveCity for the arts. • How can we leverage the power of #AI to fuel innovation and growth in #OurSGArts scene?   Last month, the National Arts Council participated in the Arts Korea Lab Festival 2024, a key platform exploring the intersection of arts and technology. Themed FUTURESCAPE, the 2024 Festival organised by the Korea Arts Management Service explored discussions surrounding emerging trends such as AI and art.     We were honoured to showcase Singapore’s arts x tech projects with a global audience, featuring insights from the Performing Arts x Tech Lab 2023/24 participants – dance artist Dapheny Chen, co-founder of SERIAL CO_ Ernest Wu and interactive designer Alina Ling.   The panel discussion, ‘Solidarity in Art & Technology: Between Experimentation and Growth’, fostered valuable dialogues with our Korean peers as artists shared their learnings gleaned from creating arts x tech projects through multidisciplinary collaborations. In addition, we networked with fellow arts and technology practitioners from across the region, gaining valuable insights into emerging technology trends such as AI and best practices.   We are grateful to Korea Arts Management Service for this valuable opportunity. These international exchanges are crucial to fostering a vibrant and innovative arts and technology ecosystem, driving the growth of our #CreativeEconomy. We look forward to continued collaboration with South Korea and exploring new avenues for artistic expression in the digital age.

  • Organised by the National Arts Council, National Gallery Singapore and Singapore Art Museum, the Singapore Art Week Forum 2025 gathers international artists, curators, and museum and urban practitioners like Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates, Hilde Teerlinck, CEO/Artistic Director of Han Nefkens Foundation, and Sharmini Pereira, Chief Curator at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka. What are the ways in which artists, cultural workers, and institutions have made concrete impacts on communities? How can they re-organise and change, in order to comfort and to disturb? In what ways can museums and cultural institutions think of the public as constituent parts of themselves? Join us for a day of insightful conversations, networking, and bold ideas that redefine how art interacts with the public. • Last week, we gathered as #OneNAC for our Annual Staff Function.   Themed “Around the World”, NAC staff put on various outfits to compete for the best-dressed title. As we wind down for the year, this gathering fostered team bonding, sparked new connections and left us all with unforgettable memories. Special thanks to the Recreation and Social Committee and the People & Culture team for planning this event. Cheers to Team NAC and we look forward to a promising 2025!
