NEA held our inaugural Waste Management Facility Contractor Safety Forum last week, which was attended by the top management of each contractor that we work with to support operations at our waste management facilities, including Tuas South Incineration Plant and Semakau Landfill. Workplace safety is a continuous journey of commitment and improvement. We can create safer workplaces by having everyone work together. This involves not just all of us at NEA, but also everyone else that we work with at our facilities. So, we held this inaugural Forum to reaffirm our commitment to safety together with the top management of our contractors. We also launched the Contractor Safety Promotion Group to make safety a continuous improvement journey. This Forum is part of our broader effort to engage our external partners on safety. For example, earlier this year, we also conducted senior management safety walkabouts at all incineration plants operated by private sector operators. Safety First, Improve Together! #WorkplaceSafety #WSH

The public sector’s FY2023 GreenGov.SG report is now released! The annual GreenGov.SG report reviews the Government's environmental and sustainability efforts across all Ministries, Organs of State and Statutory Boards, and our progress towards meeting our sustainability targets. The report looks at all the public sector's assets in Singapore (e.g office buildings, schools, public installations). This year, the report has also been expanded to include waste data and our steps towards net zero emissions by 2045! 🌱💚 Visit https://lnkd.in/g_iHSQeH for the full report and learn more about our achievements, ongoing efforts, and plans. #SingaporePublicSector #SGGreenPlan #GreenGovSG #SustainableSG

Check out the cumulus clouds floating around the Singapore skyline. These white fluffy clouds often resemble small puffs of cotton wool. On a bright sunny day, they can start to appear around 10 or 11am. Often appearing in close clusters, they can combine to form clouds which evolve into tall cloud towers on warm days. These may continue to grow into much larger cumulonimbus clouds, or thunderstorm clouds, which take on a darkened grey appearance. #WeatherWednesday #SGWeather

NEA has awarded three proposals from the first grant call under the Closing the Resource Loop (CTRL) Funding Initiative. These proposals were submitted in response to the Request for Proposal (RFP) on ‘Beyond Incineration: Plastic Waste Recycling and Food Packaging Solutions’. • Two of the awarded projects are from Nanyang Technological University Singapore and will focus on recycling plastic waste that is currently not easily recycled such as polyurethane. • The third project team, from A*STAR Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy & Environment (ISCE2), will develop a sustainable high-performance mono-material packaging that can be recycled and reused in its original application. The CTRL Funding Initiative supports R&D on sustainable resource recovery solutions for key waste streams such as e-waste, plastics, and food, and finding useful and safe applications for treated waste residues. Continued investment into R&D will allow us to chart new frontiers in our journey towards a sustainable, resource-efficient, and climate-resilient Singapore. Applications are currently open for proposals to develop innovative solutions for food waste. Find out more and submit your proposals at go.gov.sg/ctrlfunding. #TowardsZeroWaste #SGGreenPlan #SustainableSG

Singapore continues to lead in innovative dengue prevention strategies. At the 8th Singapore International Dengue Workshop (SIDW), Minister Grace Fu announced the expansion of #ProjectWolbachiaSG to achieve 50% coverage of households by 2026. NEA’s 10-year study has shown promising outcomes at the study sites: • 80% to 90% decrease in Aedes aegypti mosquito population • 75% reduction in dengue risk • 45% reduced likelihood of dengue for residents in adjacent areas NEA will also pilot the Wolbachia suppression technology in areas with active, intense dengue transmission, to understand its utility in interrupting the development of large clusters. If effective, this new application of Wolbachia as a cluster management tool could complement traditional outbreak response operations. This edition of SIDW brings together health officials and, for the first time, city planners from 24 countries, emphasising cross-sector collaboration in controlling Aedes-borne diseases. Themed "Bridging Sectors for a Dengue-Free City", SIDW 2024 is jointly organised by NEA’s Environmental Health Institute, the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). Together with the Association of Funeral Directors Singapore, NEA organised a session for Funeral Services Providers (FSPs) on 19 Nov 2024. The session provided an update on government-managed after-death facilities and services, which included handling of infectious deceased bodies, safety measures during Cat 1 lightning, and industry best practices. This would help to guide FSPs to continually uplift professionalism and standards in the funeral industry, and provide care for the deceased with respect and dignity. The CPF Board and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) also shared educational information on employers and tax obligations in Singapore.

Think restrooms are just for quick bathroom breaks? 🚽 Think again! On World Toilet Day (19 Nov), the Restroom Association (Singapore) hosted the LOO Awards 2024 to celebrate the outstanding efforts of individuals and organisations in keeping our public restrooms clean, hygienic, and welcoming. 🚻 At the event, some cleaners and premises owners shared amusing stories—for example, some individuals asking to study and even eat in restrooms! This just goes to show how much we all value a clean, comfortable space. In my speech, I emphasised the importance of adopting innovative, tech-driven solutions to elevate the restroom experience. I was inspired by the eco-friendly devices in action during the booth tour, and I hope more establishments will embrace these technologies to boost hygiene and sustainability. A big congratulations to all 2024 LOO Awards winners! 👏 Your dedication to clean and accessible restrooms makes a difference to our everday lives. Let’s all do our part to keep our public restrooms safe and pleasant for everyone. 💙 #WorldToiletDay #YearofPublicHygiene
