About us

Pangdemonium is proudly Singaporean, dedicated to creating stories that are challenging, inspiring, relevant, and accessible, in a league with the best of theatre internationally. We hold ourselves to the highest artistic, entertainment and production values possible. Since our inception in 2010, we have steadily grown in size, strength and stature, with our unique annual Season Ticket an indication of the continued support and commitment our audience has to the Pangdemonium brand. Our work has garnered rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, and has won prestigious theatre accolades, such as the coveted Life! Theatre Awards Production of the Year Award and the Readers’ Choice for Production of the Year. Pangdemonium has also earned a reputation as a vibrant and vital voice in the arts community. A key component of our mission is also to uncover new talent and give opportunities to aspiring artists and technical practitioners to work in a professional, challenging and nurturing environment. This was the inspiration behind our “Next Generation” initiative, which sees our mentored workshops in musical theatre and playwriting as valuable launching pads for aspiring young theatre practitioners. We firmly believe that this “sowing seeds” ethos is the way to keep the Singapore arts scene dynamic, fresh and progressive. Pangdemonium aims to continually prove that Singapore is able to produce theatre that can challenge international standards, theatre that Singaporeans can be proud of, and to inspire people to embrace theatre as a way of life. • 🌟 Celebrating growth and learning at Pangdemonium 🌟 At Pangdemonium, we believe strongly in nurturing the next generation of aspiring artists and technical practitioners. Most recently, Melissa Hecker, completed her four-month production apprenticeship programme with us. Reflecting on her experience, Melissa shares that “during my time as a production apprentice at Pangdemonium, I gained valuable insights into the inner workings of a production. While I love performing and will soon be pursuing a degree in musical theatre, I initially applied for the role of production apprentice to understand the challenges faced backstage. Little did I expect to attain was the ability to read minds, which I believe to be the most important skill in production: thinking ahead, anticipating needs, and fulfilling them before they are requested.” Beyond being just an extra set of hands, Melissa played an active role in helping to run our Pangdemonium productions Falling and most recently Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. “I learned that a good production runs like a well-oiled machine. Continuously learning about other team members’ needs helps us fill in the gaps and work together seamlessly.” During Falling, Melissa worked on acquiring a list of prop items to help make the set design look more “lived in”. “I noticed the set dressing looked too brand new, and decided to proactively make a list of things that could be used to make the house feel more lived-in and create a more immersive audience experience. Drawing inspiration from my own home, I presented the list to the associate set designer Grace, who then put me in charge of acquiring these items.” Melissa also embraced the demanding role of assistant stage manager during our Triple Threats musical theatre showcase. “I hit the ground running and quickly learned what was required of me. This consisted of many things, including the presets and movement of the cast, set, and costumes on and off-stage. At one point during the show, while backstage, I was handing out, collecting, and then handing out more props mid-song, in near darkness. I needed to maintain laser-like focus, to ensure that the show could run without any hiccups.” Looking ahead, Melissa is eager to apply her newfound skills into future theatrical endeavours. "This apprenticeship has equipped me with invaluable lessons in people management, relationship-building, and time management. It is my privilege to be given the opportunity to learn and grow, and I know I will not be the last person to benefit from this programme.” If you're passionate about production, we invite you to explore our upcoming apprenticeship opportunities starting this September (minimum commitment period of three months). • On behalf of Pangdemonium's FALLING family, we want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who came to share in this experience with us. This play perhaps presented us all with more questions than answers, because there really are no easy answers to a situation that all of us as a society should have a stake in. But we hope that one of the questions we are all asking ourselves is "What can I personally do to make a difference?" - not rhetorically, but in all sincerity. As a theatre company, we are shining a light on, and giving voice to, an invisible, unheard community. We hope it makes a difference. Onward.
