Blessed with abundant solar, wind, and natural resources, the country possesses vast renewable energy potential.   • 🇯🇵 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝟳𝟯% 𝗚𝗛𝗚 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟰𝟬   #Japan will progressively increase its #GHG reduction targets up to 2040. The new plan will see Japan cutting #GHGemissions by 60% from 2013 levels by 2035, and by 73% by 2040.   In addition, to advance the #energytransition while meeting rising power demand, Japan’s new energy plan aims to augment the country’s #electricity mix to comprise up to 50% renewables by 2040.   • 🇲🇽 𝗠𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝟳.𝟭𝟰 𝗚𝗪 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬   As part of its plan to expand #electricity generation capacity by nearly 23 GW for the country, the Mexican government has announced plans to install and deploy 7.14 GW of new #wind and #solar #renewable #energy capacity by 2030.   • 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝘁 𝟱𝟲% 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 🇨🇳   In 2024, China’s cumulative renewable energy capacity reached a record high of 56% of the country’s total energy capacity, with 86% of new capacity installed in 2024 coming from renewables.   The renewable energy sector increased installed capacity by more than 373,000 MW, a 23% increase from 2023. Solar, wind and hydro- power contributed 278,000 MW, 79,820 MW and 13,780 MW respectively to this new capacity.   𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁  🌱 The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts China to have half of global installed renewable energy capacity by 2030 🌱 China will account for 60% of new capacity additions from 2025 to 2030   As China strives to achieve its dual carbon goals of achieving peak emission by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, the country is developing a green economy, with renewable energy as one of the engines.   Powering the green economy hand-in-hand with renewable energy are Green Electricity Certificates (GECs) which could catalyse increased investment in renewables.
