We recently wrapped up an intimate media briefing at the One Michelin-starred Burnt Ends Restaurant, announcing an exciting partnership between Audi Singapore and Burnt Ends Hospitality Group. To be housed at the Audi House of Progress Singapore–Audi’s new showroom set to open early next year–will be Audi x Burnt Ends Bakery! A new concept that will offer exclusive German-inspired sweet and savoury treats like the quintessential pretzel, veal schnitzel slider, crunchy Bavarian beer-battered waffles topped with honey, and the bakery’s famed doughnuts in new flavours – apple strudel and black forest. In photos: Chef-Owner, Burnt Ends Hospitality Group, Dave Pynt, and Audi Singapore’s Managing Director, Markus Schuster, as well as the architect’s perspective of the Audi House of Progress

As we continue to keep cybersecurity and fraud awareness front and center, our RICE Myanmar team partnered local influencer Aperture 9 to produce a vox pop video for one of our long-standing clients, Wave Money. The video features Aperture 9 convincing people to reveal their details under the guise of an account "upgrade." Some fell for it - even inviting him to stand in the shade to share their information “securely”! The video’s playful and eye-opening nature has struck a chord, sparking over 10,000 reactions and 270,000 views on Facebook, plus an impressive 1.1 million views on TikTok, within a few days!

Are you willing to “get back into the real world?” Our Strategy Director, Agung S. Ongko, recently published a reflection piece on this subject—taking inspiration from the stories and people he met during the recently concluded Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2024 in Bali. You may read the whole article by following this link: https://lnkd.in/g5YPMJyc
Partner & Strategy Director at RICE | Chair, PRCA APAC Strategy & Insights Network | PR, Branding, Insights
“Get back into the real world!” ➡️ That’s what the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and press freedom fighter Maria Ressa exhorted us all to do at the end of her electrifying session at the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival 2024 #uwrf2024 this past weekend in Bali. 📚🌴 Reflecting on her own ‘love story turned sour’ with Facebook, she dove into the darker deeds of The Big Social Networks that have not only enabled but actively capitalised on the web of disinformation and polarisation online. She likened it to having addictive drugs — hateful, angry, potent lies engineered for maximum virality💉— administered incessantly and tested on us all in real time, with no controls in place — unthinkable in the world of clinical trials and Covid vaccines. We need to demand better in the real world, from governments and legislators, she exclaimed. ⚖️ Still, it’s not the first time mankind has been addicted to anything but the real world. On the exact same stage just moments later, prolific Indian writer Amitav Ghosh walked us through the research behind his book Smoke and Ashes on the history of the opium trade — its role as an actor of corruption, greed, and empire. Echoes of Maria’s impassioned cry against today’s social network giants and their 'digital drugs' had barely left the stage... And as Amitav himself wryly said, to quote Mark Twain: “History never repeats itself, but it does rhyme.” 🕕 Yet for most of us, as we live and die by our phones, and hop from one email to the next Slack message (or get busy figuring out how to jump on gen AI), what does it take to untangle ourselves from the clutches of colony and capitalism? What does ‘getting back into the real world’ mean? Continue to read my three key reflections in this article (https://lnkd.in/g5YPMJyc) 1️⃣ It’s not about you (or your nation). It never has been and it never will be. 🫱🏼🫲🏾 2️⃣ Read (and write) to remember. 📖 3️⃣ Pass it on and pay it forward. 🔄

TL;DR is our way of bringing you condensed versions of recent news stories. Each edition contains just two stories that we believe are worth your time. We promise you should be able to digest these bite-size summaries in just under 3 minutes! This week, we covered: 🏢 TL: Data centres are booming in Southeast Asia, but sustainability remains a challenge. 🦮 DR: Asian countries may be incentivising having children, but their youth seem to have other plans…

We wrapped up a two-day corporate training workshop in Jakarta at ofi's APAC communications meet. It’s not often that you address an audience from 5+ countries, and departments ranging from Business Development, legal, HR, and Communications. Our sessions covered presentation skills, reputation & risk management, measurement, crisis communications, and a special North Star session to envision the desired positioning for 2025. Big shoutout to James L. for his partnership and trust, and Nikki Barber for bringing her global expertise. A special mention goes out to Ravi Pokhriyal, President and Regional Head, Asia Pacific at ofi and Rama Krishna Prasad, Asia Pacific F&B Solutions Head, for their support, knowledge sharing and guidance. Kudos to our trainers, Agung S. Ongko, Joel Cutinho and to all the participants for making it an engaging, dynamic workshop which takes our collaboration to new heights! 💼💪 #CorporateTraining #APACComms #GrowthMindset #Teamwork

✅ Giving outstanding entrepreneurs the recognition they deserve ✅ Inspiring young innovators to bring their ideas to life ✅ Providing the media with great stories to tell No wonder this is one of our favorite projects to date! Our team is proud to have worked with the The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Sino Group for this year’s HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition. During the press conference, journalists were introduced to the six winning teams and their groundbreaking business ideas. Congratulations to Pest0, the Platinum Award (Champion) from HKUST Track! They shared their patent-pending solution that produces natural pest-repellent pellets made from recycled rubber, essential oils, and nanoparticles, effectively keeping pests at bay. ✋ Also present were Adjunct Professor of the Division of Integrative Systems and Design at HKUST and Advisor (Innovation) of Sino Group, Ir. Andrew Young, and Director of HKUST Entrepreneurship Center, Prof. Carrie Hang-yin Ling, who gave encouraging speeches and insights to everyone present! Phoebe Sou Janice Chan Alex L. Karen King

Our Thai team recently had a fun and productive meeting with Bangkok Post's business editor, K'Srisamorn Phoosuphanusorn! We chatted about news and tech trends, and even swapped tips for surviving turbulent flights. ✈️ As RICE continues to grow in Thailand, we're reminded how essential strong media relations are for brands in navigating new markets and amplifying impactful stories. Travel fans, raise your glasses (or boarding passes)! 🎉🎉🎉 In celebration of Klook’s 10th birthday, our Hong Kong team recently hosted a celebratory gathering with members of the media. Guests got first dibs on Klook’s plans with Klook Hong Kong’s General Manager Kenny Sham, and Marketing Director, Winnie Chan. These include initiatives that aim to drive tourism towards a more inclusive, responsible, and sustainable future. The event also served as the launch for the second phase of Klook’s new campaign “Money Can’t Buy Experiences,” which underscores the intrinsic value of unique and memorable moments over material possessions.
