We were honored to co-host a distinguished delegation from Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, led by His Excellency Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Her Excellency Hajah Nor Ashikin Binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community). Together with the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore (MSF), we welcomed the delegation to the Enabling Village for an immersive experience of inclusive living, working, and playing. The delegation toured key facilities, including Singapore’s first inclusive ActiveSG gym, the Stroke Support Station, Tech Able, and The Art Faculty. Hosted by Tribe Pte Ltd, they also explored artisanal creations by makers with disabilities under the i’mable Collective, showcasing the possibilities unlocked through collaboration. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we look forward to continued engagement and future collaborations in promoting disability inclusion. We thank our partners for their continued support too! #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives

We were pleased to participate in the recent Singapore Business Network on Disability (SBNoD) meeting hosted by Standard Chartered Singapore, an Enabling Mark (Platinum) recipient. During the session, Standard Chartered Singapore shared how the Enabling Mark has strengthened its commitment to building an inclusive workplace. The Enabling Mark benchmarks and recognises organisations for their best practices and outcomes in disability-inclusive employment. We also shared about our Enabling Skills and Competencies Framework, which helps employers identify skills gaps and build capabilities for employees with disabilities. This framework supports key areas such as education, employment practices, and onboarding strategies, aimed at fostering environments where people with disabilities can thrive professionally. As the ecosystem builder and specialist agency for disability-inclusive employment in Singapore, we are delighted to see various partners and individuals come together to share insights from different perspectives. We look forward to continued partnerships with organisations to enhance support for persons with disabilities, create employment opportunities, and foster an inclusive workplace culture in Singapore. Supporting Allied Professionals (APs) – especially newcomers - so that they may stay and thrive in the industry, is vital for supporting the incredible work done in Special Education (SPED) schools. As the disability sector enabler, we recently organised a Community of Practice (CoP) so that APs from different schools and disciplines could come together to build connections, share best practices and remain updated with the latest industry happenings. This ensures that every student receives the care and expertise they deserve. More than 60 APs, many of them new to the profession, joined the CoP last week, participating in a fireside chat comprising of senior professionals to learn from them and fellow peers on how they could overcome challenges, forge stronger inter-disciplinary collaborations, and good practices to maintain their well-being at work, among others. They were also introduced to resources that could support their professional development and simple practices for self-care. It was a lovely session as colleagues interacted, provided encouragement and bonded through their heart-work of supporting clients. We thank all SPED Allied Professionals for their dedication, and look forward to more of such sessions to come. If you’re an Allied Professional in a SPED school keen to be updated on our latest news and events, write in to sped@sgenable.sg to join our mailing list. #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives #SPED #AlliedProfessionals

It was a privilege to be a part of the Singapore Global Sustainable Tourism Conference 2024 (GSTC) held on November 14th. Held at Resorts World Sentosa, representatives from various sectors—including government, hospitality, tourism, academia, and non-profit organizations— shared insights and discussed how to drive sustainable and inclusive tourism practices to over 500 attendees. Our founding CEO, Ms. Ku Geok Boon was part of the panel discussion on Accessibility in Tourism. During the discussion, speakers agreed that prioritising inclusivity and accessibility in their businesses helps build a more diverse and accepting society, where everyone can freely explore and engage in travel experiences without barriers. Ms. Ku also shared the following key insights on how SG Enable champions accessible tourism as a cornerstone of disability inclusion using the A.C.C.E.S.S approach: during the panel discussion: - Advocate for inclusive tourism practices - Collaborate with stakeholders across sectors to effect change - Capability-building for businesses to enhance physical and digital accessibility - Experiences in tourism that are inclusive - Sustainability in accessible tourism has long-term business benefits - Support for tourism providers in inclusive hiring and training, alongside consultancy for consumer inclusiveness As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, creating a society where persons with disabilities can live, learn, work, and play is central to our mission. Congratulations to Dr Hong Huay Lim, our board member who was recently nominated as a finalist for The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year, presented by UBS Singapore! The award is given in recognition to Singaporeans who have made a significant contribution to society, be it putting Singapore on the world stage or going beyond the call of duty to selflessly improve the lives of others in the community, among other ways. Supported by SG Enable, Dr Lim founded CaringSG, a caregiver support network through which she has championed support for caregivers of persons with disabilities, creating a community through shared experiences. She pioneered a community and peer support model, mobilising over 14 organisations to build a stronger network for caregivers. As co-chair of the Alliance of Action for Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities from 2021-2024, she also empowered more than 7,000 caregivers, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to a more inclusive Singapore. We are proud that Dr Lim’s remarkable contributions in supporting caregivers are recognised on a national level. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we would like to thank her for her pioneering efforts in creating a strong system of support for caregivers of persons with disabilities, and look forward to a continued partnership with her and other like-minded individuals to further enhance caregiver support. Since 2023, Metta School’s graduating students have embarked on an annual learning journey to the Enabling Village, where they are introduced to the Enabling Academy, which offers SG Enable-funded courses that support their transition into the workforce.    In their recent visit, students dived into engaging activities and interactive games, building essential industry skills aligned with the Enabling Skills & Competency Framework. For example, they explored customer service training, with trainer Katherine Chia from Raffles Hotels & Resorts, which could open exciting opportunities, for students well-suited for front-facing roles. Students also received step-by-step guidance on navigating the SG Enable website, empowering them to explore courses and plan their development journey after graduation. As the disability sector enabler and specialist agency in Singapore, we provide a range of post-graduation support for students with disabilities, to empower them to thrive and succeed in their chosen careers.   Discover the courses funded by us here: https://lnkd.in/g5_MtzEH   #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives #DisabilityInclusion #SpecialEducation #InclusiveEducation

We are pleased to share CaringSG’s Proof-of-Concept Report for Project 3i, which showcases the impactful efforts made after the project wrapped up this year.   As the focal agency for disability and inclusion, we formed the Alliance for Action (AfA) for Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities in 2021 with National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and community partners. A key project supported by the AfA was Project 3i – a caregiver-led initiative by CaringSG – which has made strides in fostering a supportive and inclusive community for caregivers and families of persons with disabilities since its implementation.   As the focal agency for disability and inclusion, enhancing support for caregivers is part of what we do. Our partnership with CaringSG continues as we work together to scale up Project 3i and extend its positive impact within the caregiver community, through channels like our Enabling Services Hubs.   Click below to read highlights of the report.   #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives #Project3i #CaregiverSupport

🌟Project 3i's Proof-of-Concept: Our Impact for Caregiver Support 🌟 We’re excited to share the impact of CaringSG's Project 3i in our Proof-of-Concept Report! Since January 2022 to December 2023, Project 3i has reached over 3,150 caregivers and created more than 14,550 touchpoints. ✨ Bringing Caregivers Together 1,650 caregivers have joined support groups, with 59% experiencing this type of connection for the first time. They’ve told us how these connections have made them feel less isolated, and able to care for themselves and their child/dependent better. 📚 Learning and Growing Together With 24 webinars and 1 CAREconference attended by over 2,600 caregivers and 940 persons with disabilities and members of the public, Project 3i has created a space to share essential knowledge. Caregivers left feeling more prepared to care for their loved ones (88%) and learn to care for themselves too (74%). 🤝 Making Connections in the Community Our 73 CAREconnect events welcomed 1,460 caregivers and 500 individuals with disabilities. The 3 CAREcarnivals saw over 500 caregivers and over 2540 persons with disabilities too, helping everyone feel connected and supported. Over 80% of caregivers said they felt more included in the neighbourhood and connected with other caregivers. The CAREkaki & CAREchampion programme were implemented in 6 constituencies, namely Boon Lay, Kampong Glam, Bukit Batok East, Nanyang, Telok Blangah and Pioneer with more than 80 grassroots and community volunteers trained as CAREkaki. More than 3600 touchpoints with caregivers were made by the CAREkaki through the above events, with support by 10 CAREchampions (caregiver volunteers trained by CaringSG to support outreach in the community). The CAREchampions also made more than 280 touchpoints with fellow caregivers during the events. 🌈 One-on-One Support through CAREbuddy and CAREwell Through the CAREbuddy programme, 95 caregivers have gained trusted support, and 93% would recommend it to others. 5 runs of the caregiver volunteer training were conducted with a total of 52 caregiver volunteers trained, of whom 42 chose to serve as CAREbuddies, and the remaining 10 as CAREchampions. CAREwell has also been a game-changer, helping families with tailored support through 67 CAREwell packages. 92% of caregivers offered the CAREwell programme showed improvement in terms of caregiver well-being, caregiver and dependent goals attainment, and family situations. 💡 Looking Ahead With continued support from SG Enable and the implementation of the Enabling Services Hubs, we’re scaling up Project 3i in 2024 and beyond to connect more caregivers together, spread helpful resources, and strengthen our community.
