Grateful to Nanyang Technological University Singapore Wilson Huang Edwin Chen Benn Goh for having me as a panel speaker for MSE Ignite 2025, an event organised as part of Dr Eileen Fong's MS3015 Industry Design module. Alongside industry leaders from Mencast Marine Pte Ltd, Applied Materials, and SILICON BOX, I had the privilege of sharing insights with over 90 Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) undergraduates on the key skills, traits, and attributes that employers seek to help them navigate future career opportunities. As a cluster officer at JTC Corporation my responsibilities have extended beyond lease and tenancy management. My team and I have worked on #JurongInnovationDistrict - a comprehensive advanced manufacturing hub. As part of JTC's Industry Connect, we have attracted new prospects and forged partnerships with industry leaders and educational institutions, including NTU, with Enna Tan Eddie Phua , focusing on industry adoption and talent development. Drawing from this experience, I shared some key advice for jobseekers: Highlight both direct and indirect skillsets: As an MSE graduate with engineering experience, I emphasised problem-solving, marketing, and outreach skills that were relevant to the new role, despite lacking direct real estate experience. Exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to learn: Acknowledge areas for growth but demonstrate your ability to learn and adapt. Let your personality shine: Showcase your ability to work well with diverse stakeholders, be friendly during the application and interview process. Research the company and role thoroughly: Attend career fairs, company tours, and network with industry professionals to gain insights. This demonstrates genuine interest to potential employers. As a #NTU MSE graduate, I found it particularly rewarding to give back to the MSE community.
