We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Yan Kit Heritage Gallery and Mural, a significant step in preserving Singapore’s rich sports heritage. Originally opened in 1952, the Yan Kit Swimming Complex was Singapore’s second public pool, and a beloved recreational space until its closure in 2001. This historic venue trained many aquatic champions, including swimming legend Neo Chwee Kok, and water polo icons, the Gan brothers. It also fostered grassroots participation through the Public Swimming Club (PSC), nurturing community spirit and youth talent. Today, we celebrated the gallery and mural’s opening with Guest-of-Honour, Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and National Development. Guests immersed themselves in a self-guided tour, while others enjoyed other engaging activities, including traditional kampong games and heritage talks. This initiative by Sport Singapore reflects our commitment to preserving Singapore’s sporting history, while strengthening community ties. We invite everyone to visit the Yan Kit Pool Heritage Gallery and Mural, and discover more about the evolution of Singapore’s sporting landscape.
