Late Post: www.ssricenews.com for the full report (subscription required) weekly summary- The SS Rice News team was present at the 3rd Global Sustainable Rice Conference 2025 (Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP)) in Bangkok this week. Our eyes were opened to what many see as the rice industry conscience bare to see. More concerns being added with traceability and decarbonization elements added as new concerns to rice markets that feed half the world. Rice leaves an environmental footprint that drives many in effort, so the industry is in tune with the rest of the world’s efforts to address environmental stresses. While the event was a success, it was clear that SRP is shifting to harness innovation and a drive for a larger slice of the global industry. Efforts and investments reveal a “generational” presence offered over the shorter time-frame targets to show investor resilience. To anyone who was there, there was a sense of massive potential that needs to be fully appreciated. To our core, rice trade focus, the big news was of port congestion in Kakinada, as a signal of India’s growing presence since restrictions were removed. This came as the export community was suggested to push for the reopening of broken rice exports, which we continue to see as an important part of the India’s ethanol and energy strategy. We keep watching what would potentially be another massive disruptor if a “cheap” Indian broken (though we don’t see it as cheap as we have seen in the recent past with the added energy-based demand). The big question ahead seems to be just how "desperate" India is in wanting to export surpluses. With the congestion, we can see a clear demand for cheaper Indian rice, but also a logistical challenge emerge as soon as India’s competitive structure boosted sales after the removal of restrictions showed. Ghana elections on 7 Dec, Bangladesh demand, and Bulog demand (time is running out for what is another 500-800 TMT of imports that seem left over from allowances), offer hope. If we are looking for a "price bottom" the answer seems linked to how desperately India wants exports to solve its bulging surplus production. Markets remain on tenterhooks, as strong exports and production support exportable surpluses from major rice export origins, even South America was "shocked" by recent discoveries of a larger than anticipated stock position which lends to a bearish price. contact Huong Phan or V Subramanian about SS Rice News for more information and interest in subscriptions

was delighted to be a part of the 3rd Global Sustainable Rice Conference and Exhibition as 1. Panelist at the "Market and Regulatory Outlook" session to compare SRP hopes in a changing global rice market 2. SS Rice News was honoured to be a supporting media for this event and we (Huong Phan and I) have been writing stories and doing interviews which should show in the days and weeks ahead 3. Appreciative of SRP, friend and outgoing executive director Wyn Ellis and team the space looks to be growing, environmental challenges add fresh challenges and the event revealed strong roots from committed long term members as well as a suite of interest from innovators that delivered a dynamic event showcasing excitement, interest and a wide range of offerings to take SRP's efforts to new highs with a constantly evolving environmental concern ensuring that participants have to keep up with the latest. An excellent platform, for networking and exchange we learned a lot about a segment in rice markets we have always had on our peripheral vision. congratulations Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) and wishing you the very best on the road ahead.

this week's report highlights (full report for our subscribers) a short report this week and the team have been busy working on new features for the year ahead... we have 1. Online event for all subscribers in Dec (free for subscribers and we hope to start a quarterly chat with a look at markets periodically as part of your subscription benefit) 2. SS Rice News Network in early March.. possibly in Vietnam 3. The main SS Rice News Convention 2025 is set for 12-14 November 2025 in Thailand and we have lots of interesting ideas to try to keep it interesting ...and support is already flowing and appreciated. In rice markets, steady and somewhat sluggish markets that saw buyers bid lower, not convince sellers In summary, Demand potential continues to show promise, but buyers seem expectant of more price weakness. • Indonesia: one more 500 TMT tender for now / press says no imports in 2025 but we must keep watch • Bangladesh seeks 150 TMT in tenders and in talks for 200 TMT G2G but apart from one tender, it is a process toward 1 MMT of imports - More Chinese demand enquiries but not translated to sales.. we have reports of good swarna sales to Vietnam and China as an emerging trend. - South America seeks Asian rice - Africa and the Middle East demand should rise ahead of key Ramadan peak demand needs. The story remains the same as global exportable supplies look solid with India and Pakistan as drivers of new added supplies. Thai, Viet, Cambodia crop expectations look strong with farming community motivated by higher prices of 2024, but weaker prices will test markets ahead. www.ssricenews.com join us!

weekly summary is online for those with access and we have a couple of highlights: - One cannot ignore the U.S. elections this week, Trump return, not unexpected, but it comes with the usual measure of fear and hope. Rice markets saw - Indonesian tender (1 Nov and winners were revealed on 3 and 4 Nov), - The Bangladesh tender on 4 Nov for 50 TMT cheap prices ruled and one wonders if this is a precursor to the road ahead India revealed a record 120 MMT kharif crop estimate, so we investigated and saw 31.06 MMT of Oct rice stocks with FCI (the highest ever was in Apr 2022 at 32.75 MMT), and with 48.5 MMT of purchases ahead, we can see the pressure, as these high stocks come just before the FCI procurement start and there is a balancing act ahead. Expect pressure on prices. India also revealed another Bharat rice and atta scheme this week. That's all folks, shrugged off the Deepavali lethargy.. we're back and plotting our next moves ...starting with the Global Sustainable Rice Conference https://lnkd.in/gaRdftFW Look forward to learning and meeting rice market fellows at an event that brings rice and the environment closer... so we leave the next generation with the same or better resources to feed themselves. Have a good weekend.

Perum Bulog tender 1 Nov 2024 for 500 tmt rice. I know . Supposed to be on holiday, but this is interesting and some quick thoughts on the lots breakdown we saw revealed 7 Thai (200,500 MT) 3 Viet (83,500 MT) 3 Pak (81,500 MT) 3 Indian (80,500 MT) 2 Myanmar (54,000 MT) 18 lots for 500 TMT Looks Thai friendly for volumes....quality and delivery which is often assured with Thai, though there is often a price premium, and current Thai prices make it VERY attractive, and assuming Cambodia does not feature as seen over the year. India and Pakistan could be seen as price makers to drive the bottom end of price, though shipping costs are higher while Myanmar is clearly penalized for late/slow deliveries, but still there with two lots. Vietnam, Pakistan and new boys India have their own lots for an interesting tender at the end of the week and results next week. New lots - Each origin has one lot for new players while India shows all 3 lots as new since they are new to these tenders. Expect some emphasis on confirming a large delivery (ideally without too much delays), price negotiations will be important and driven by what we see in lower-ranges.
