After COVID-19, with so much of our course culture at Temasek Polytechnic Temasek Poly - School of Design (TP Design) Product Experience+ Design disrupted, I asked myself: How do we rebuild something meaningful moving forward? It was a pivotal moment to reset and refocus on the values that truly matter—not just for academic success, but for shaping character: Above & Beyond, Heart of Gold, and The Ultimate Team Player. At that time, Gail Reynold Goodenough and Errik Wong were incredibly supportive of this vision, championing the idea and helping lay the foundation for a renewed sense of purpose and community within the course! This vision came to life during our first PED BBQ at sunset in 2022, a symbolic fresh start. Now, as we celebrate the 3rd round of PED Awards with our new course color scheme, it’s clear how far we’ve come together. This design pays homage to the module icons I created when I first joined in 2021—fun times! Although we've since moved away from using the icons, the legacy still holds a special place in our journey. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and creativity of my amazing teammates, who continue to inspire and support this shared vision. Our Diploma in Communication Design and Diploma in Product Experience and Design (Temasek Poly - School of Design (TP Design)) students embarked ✈️ on an exciting and educational 8-day trip to Shanghai 🇨🇳, where they explored the city’s rich cultural and design 🎨 landscape!   Our students visited key culturally steeped and historic sites 🏛 such as Bund, Rockbund Art Museum and Qibao Old Street. To traverse the modern design scene 🧑🎨, they went to OUTPUT Studio, TEAMS Design Shanghai and the Kohler Experience Centre. Our students also experienced a cruise ride ⛴ on the Huangpu River and visited the East China Normal University School of Design 🏫.    In addition to their immersive journey💡, our students attended trade shows 🎟 such as FURNITURE CHINA 2024 🛋, from which they gleaned current industry trends 📈 and fostered creativity and cultural appreciation 🤝 through a blend of history 📜 and contemporary design experiences 🖼!    #temasekpoly #tpcreatingtomorrow

This season, we're expanding our interdisciplinary teaching approach by incorporating lessons from design thinking, behavioral design, and design for accessibility. Our aim is to bridge Temasek Poly - School of Design (TP Design)‘s Product Experience+ Design with Temasek Polytechnic | School of Humanities & Social Sciences (TP HSS) ‘s sciences in gerontology, ultimately creating tailored product experiences for the silver economy. To kick off the semester, the team including Devin Chee Chew Sim Julius Pang Beng Huan Tey Ivan Ho hosted a bonding session and enrichment program, during which students from the 2 diplomas engage in a two-hour session designing mini-games using the productive failure framework. Later, they visited Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital to interact with residents with the mini games they made, enhancing their empathy skills and further tested their mindset to tweak the games to best suit the residents during the session.
