Sneak peek from the 18th Shenzhen International Plastics and Rubber Industry Exhibition 🇨🇳 Our team is on the ground meeting with material innovators from all over the world 🌏 Some observations: 1/ A Shift Towards Bio-based and Biodegradable Resins Around 30% of the exhibitors showcased a variety of options—from traditional fossil-based solutions to #biobased and #biodegradable resins. 2/ #PLA is Making Its Mark More than Ten booths presented PLA resins with various fibres content. Some unique mixes featured PLA blended with coconut fiber waste, coffee grounds, and bamboo fiber... which proves to perform for injection and extrusion moulding. 3/ Performance > Unit Economics > Sustainability A recurring theme across the exhibition: performance and cost-efficiency lead conversations, with sustainability often mentioned but more as a complementary aspect rather than the primary driver. 4/ The Changing Role of Trade Fairs Exhibitions like these are evolving. #Digital platforms are becoming the preferred tools for matchmaking and ordering samples, making traditional fairs feel less pertinent. While it’s still a valuable networking space, the high cost of participation remains a concern for both exhibitors and attendees. We're thinking of creating a deep-dive report on PLA 👀 Ping us if you'd love to contribute / co-author ✍️ #tocco #mattermind Zishan(Suzanne) Zhuang #china
