Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R) is pleased to be part of the URA Urban Lab Exhibition 2024 that celebrates the theme of “The Future of e-Commerce Deliveries”. The Urban Lab is an initiative by Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) to showcase innovative R&D and urban solutions for a more liveable, sustainable, and future-ready city. On showcase this year is the AI-Assisted Collaborative Logistics Model, developed by A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research institutes (Institute for Infocomm Research, Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC)) in partnership with companies (uParcel, Singapore Management University, AI Singapore and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)), that represents an innovative solution to traditional delivery inefficiencies. An improvement over conventional systems where drivers face duplicative routes and significant downtime between jobs, this AI model pools delivery jobs across multiple logistics companies to intelligently match them to drivers and determine optimal routes based on live traffic conditions. I²R has played a significant role in developing a dynamic pricing AI that adjusts delivery costs based on factors like demand, time of day, and delivery zone density, so as to incentivize efficient route choices and balance delivery loads across different areas. Further developments by I²R are underway for dynamic zone optimization based on delivery patterns, ensuring optimal resource allocation and reduced cross-zone travel. This collaborative approach not only benefits the logistics companies through improved resource utilization but also enhances customer satisfaction through faster delivery times and more competitive pricing, marking a significant advancement from individual company-based delivery planning to an integrated, AI-driven logistics solution.
